I pair it with my iPad and use it in Civil Air Patrol. It works well with my EFB and other GPS based software that I use. Battery life is incredibly long. I never have to worry about it. Highly recommended!February 16, 2019Purchased

And it's battery life is 35 hrs vs Stratus of far less. It also records the flights which you can send to Foreflight, Cloud Ahoy or wherever for your log book or just to review flight. Only thing missing is ADS-B Capabilities.June 10, 2018Purchased

So far it works fine, does not take much space, and has minimal power consumption so I like it very much.Haven't had it long enough to rate for reliability or durability.April 28, 2018Purchased

1 year agoDurability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5Works perfectlyThis little GPS is perfect for what I use it for; driving the maps on my iPad in the airplane, motorhome, and out in the desert on the side by side. I used the Maps.me freebie app and Foreflight, and they seem happy with the data. The Bluetooth connectivity is a big improvement over the older 30-pin iPad version from a couple of years back. No wires, and it connects multiple devices at once. It locks on almost instantly, and I have yet to lose signal to where position was degraded or lost. Battery life seems to be as advertised, and recharging is basic plug into any power source that's handy.March 26, 2017Durability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5Bad elf OKI like it right out of the box. I have flown with it twice, and it has preformed flawlessly. If you want a good report, you should ask after I have had it a while, and had a chance to see if it has any problems.June 15, 2016

I have an iPad Air with 64 GB of RAM that I purchased in late 2015. The Bad Elf Pro I purchased seems to work fine with the mapping applications on my iPad. I tested this by first turning off the "Location Services" in the "Privacy" tab. Then, I opened a map application to verify that no position information was available. I then turned on my Bad Elf Pro GPS receiver. It nearly immediately linked with the iPad and in a few seconds, my position was annotated on the map application. While I can't specifically speak for using an iPad 6+, the Bad Elf Pro works just fine with the iPad Air 64 GB. I'd suggest that you contact the folks at Bad Elf to see if they can answer your "6+" question. I'd send you the link to them, but the "fine print" in this site prohibits me from doing that. You should be able to find them simply by "googling" them. Good luck.Does this device work with all iPhones? If my iPad became non-functional in flight, I want to be able to pair the Bad Elf with an iPhone.BEST ANSWER: Yes, it will work with iPhone.Does this unit have a barometric sensor for altitude?BEST ANSWER: I suspect not. I've read through the instructional material, and labeling on the box. I do not see anything that indicates this GPS receiver measures "barometric" altitude. The box does show that the Bad Elf II is "accurate to 8 ft (2.5 m). I don't know what your application requirement is, but for aviation purposes, this is certainly sufficient.two questions , Our first use and interest is for sailing & racing on Lake Erie where there is limited cell service.
This device works without cell service regardless of having marine map software loaded or not?
Second, I've experienced in Guatalama last year, that an I Phone had better mapping capability than the off market map I bought for my Garmin GPS. Would this support that?BEST ANSWER: I also use the bad elf GPS unit for sailing and race management on the Chesapeake Bay. I connect via Bluetooth to an iPad with various marine navigation apps. Bad elf's GPS signal is fluid and accurate 100% of the time. Much more so than with my iPhone cell connection. There are apps that are better than others and in some cases it's more personal choice.
There are also parts of the Bay where I do not get proper cell service or the service is intermittent. Bad Elf works regardless of where I am.
As to your experience in Guatemala, I have previously used a handheld GPS device but the mapping on those units was less than adequate. With navigation apps on my iPhone using the Bad Elf signal, my only restriction was limitations related to the available mapping in remote areas.

According to the documentation that comes with this device, it'll only work with Apple devices (I know, "bummer" for you!). This site won't permit me to forward you the Bad Elf support email address. However, I'd bet you can find that information on-line, by "googling" Bad Elf II.
