The smallest, quietest ANR headset for professional pilots

Now professional pilots can wear a Bose headset designed specifically for airline and corporate flight decks, including all the noise reduction, comfort, and advanced audio features that have made Bose the top-selling headset brand in aviation. The completely new ProFlight Aviation Headset weighs just 4.9 ounces and uses comfortable silicone eartips to virtually eliminate side pressure, so it can be worn for hours without discomfort - perfect for long days in the cockpit of a Boeing or a Gulfstream. It still features digital active noise reduction, Bluetooth connectivity, and famous Bose audio quality, making it a no-compromise headset for professional pilots.

Pilot-friendly features:

  • Innovative, lightweight design weighs just 4.9 oz. - no large ear cups or ear seals
  • Contoured headband with replaceable pad - low profile with minimal clamping force
  • Rotating side pads for comfort and stability - flip up for storage or horizontal for use
  • Digital active noise cancellation - significantly reduces ambient noise (designed for jet aircraft, not piston)
  • Comfortable silicone eartips block noise - change sizes or replace without tools
  • Active equalization - automatically shapes and equalizes incoming signal for enchanced clarity
  • Adjustable boom mic - remains stable with head movement
  • Electret noise canceling mic - increases clarity and reduces background noise, even with “hot mic” airplanes

Perfect for airline and corporate pilots:

  • Tap control for talk-through communication - talk to a co-pilot or cabin crew without removing the headset
  • Quick-release mic and down cable - move the boom mic to either side without tools (ideal for co-pilots)
  • FAA TSO and E/TSO-C139a certified - approved for use on airline flight decks
  • Easily replaceable components - change headband pad, side pads, and eartips for hygiene

Ergonomic control module:

  • Three user selectable levels of noise cancellation - allows for user preference and changing aircraft
  • Bluetooth phone and audio connection - connect to mobile devices for music or lectronic flight bag notifications
  • Audio prioritization - mix Bluetooth audio with intercom audio, or auto-mute Bluetooth audio when intercom is active

Bose Connect app

New from Bose, this free app offers an enhanced way to enable Bluetooth audio sharing, manage connections, pair and unpair devices, or rename devices. It’s also updateable and scalable with continuously developed features - everything you need to get the most out of your ProFlight headset for years to come.

STAFF PIREP

"The unique design of the ProFlight is perfect for turbine airplanes. I love how lightweight the headset is, and how there’s virtually zero clamping force on my head. But the ANR and Bluetooth features are still there, and make those long cross-country flights a lot more enjoyable.”

Which cable do I need?

Most headsets come in multiple cable configurations. Choosing the right one is pretty easy, it just depends on what type of aircraft you fly:

  • Battery powered, twin plugs - this is by far the most common style, with separate microphone and headphone plugs (so-called PJ plugs). Almost every airplane ever built has these two plugs in the panel, so these headsets are universal. The only downside is that, for ANR headsets, you will need to use AA batteries to power the headset.
  • Aircraft powered, 6-pin plug - the second most popular style, sometimes called the "LEMO plug," requires no batteries since it is powered by the panel. This is convenient, but it does require the 6-pin plug to be installed in the panel. While many newer airplanes come with this option, most older airplanes do not. For these applications, you'll need to have your avionics shop wire in the plug - not a big job, but not something pilots can do on their own.
  • Airbus XLR plug - less common is a single 5-pin connector that is made for Airbus jets.

When in doubt, we recommend buying the battery powered, twin plug model. This is the most universal option, and will work in almost any airplane. If you have a 6-pin plug in your airplane or you plan to install one, the aircraft powered model is a nice option.

Sporty's tips

  1. Selecting the proper ear tip size is critical. If you have the wrong size, the headset’s performance will be compromised. This is especially true of the tap control feature, which simply will not work properly. ProFlight comes with three tip sizes, S, M, L. The medium is the default size and fits most pilots best. The small and large can be found in the pouch inside the carry case. Some pilots may find that they need one size in one ear and another size for the other ear.
  2. To change the ear tip, pilots should not pull on the “wing” of the silicone ear tip. Instead, hold the wing with your index finger and thumb while supporting the base of the ear tip with your other fingers. Gently pull back and away from the ear bud to remove the tip. This will reduce the likelihood that they will tear the ear tip.
  3. Three Levels of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) –  In fact, the three settings offer different noise cancelling profiles based on environmental factors. This means that in some aircraft pilots might find medium to be a better setting than high. We also need to stress that the low position is really just “hear-through” which optimizes voice frequencies outside the intercom. Unfortunately, wind noise is in a similar frequency range as voice, so the user will experience an increase in overall noise, even though voices will be optimized. It is important to stress that low mode is intended for use on the ground, while at the gate for example, to communicate with people coming in and out of the flight deck while staying in contact with flight ops. It is NOT intended for use while in flight. The intent is to use it when you need, then to go back to medium or high mode.

Bose Proflight is NOT COMPATIBLE with the MD-88/90
These are amazingly comfortable and the noise reduction is excellent. Bluetooth phone calls to the dispatcher/maintenance is brilliant. Unfortunately, they do not work with the intercom system of the MD-88/90. Can't talk to the ramp or the FA's through your headset. There is also no side tone (hear yourself when you talk) with these on the Mad Dog either. I have tried two headsets on multiple aircraft (thanks Sporty's for your awesome customer service) and neither headset would work. On some aircraft the microphone doesn't work at all. Bose tech support acknowledged that this "may be" an aircraft compatibility issue. I asked about a firmware update because the head set is set for that and they say it is hardware related and firmware won't fix it... sadly Mad Dog pilots, we're going to have to change planes to get to wear these babies.

Great lightweight comfortable headset
I'll start off by saying before buying this headset, I had a cheap, basic headset I had bought off of Amazon for my private and been using since. Now that I'm a flight instructor, this basic headset that I used had become uncomfortable (and honestly a little painful) after flying for so much during the day. I tried this pair on at Oshkosh, after trying on the A20's. I'm not sure how much the A20's compress on your head after a full day of flying, but these are a dream. They just sit on top of your head, and the ear buds are so nice. There is a level of difficulty trying to pinpoint which size earbuds to use. I'm very pleased with this headset.

Not for me
Awkward. Feels weird on my head, not very stable. Not much improvement with the pads still feeling a bit like the A20 ear cups. Still get hot spots on top of my head. Wires are huge and heavy and in the way. Repacking it in its case is awkward, feels like it could break easily. The case has instructions printed on the inside of it on how to repack the headset, that tells you how weird it is. Just a weird headset. Sticking with A20 until they come up with a better idea. I’m a 737 captain.

Great headset. Really light. Finally a headset I can ware sunglasses on my ears without them being pressed into my head!ANR is perfect for the 737, not so much for my 172...Double tap thing works well, but does kick off occasionally like during my captain’s hard landings or when I sneeze....Good headset- a keeper

Great Product
Absolutely fantastic. ANR rivals my One-X and it’s very comfortable. It takes a little getting used to put it on/ear buds in correctly. Once you have it down you shouldn’t have any issues at all. Everything seems great the only complaint I would have is that it can be somewhat annoying to put back in the case.

Great headset so far. Cancels noise very well and is comfortable. Medium seems to do the trick with respect to noise and the tap through feature works nicely.

Great Lightweight Headset
I've ben using them for two weeks now. The light weight of the headset is great, the noise canceling is amazing and the sound clarity is great. The side cushions where not as comfortable as I thought they where going to be,they need more cushion and it took some time to get use to those, unfortunately I have a big head, this headset was made for pilots with average or less then average size heads. If the side cushions would extend just a little more, it can solve that problem. Being able to stop the noise canceling on one side at a time is a great feature, but it's sensitive enough that if you hit a good bump rolling down the runway, it will activate that feature which can be distracting at times. The in ear plugs are comfortable, really great idea with that. All in all, apart from the little twerks i mentioned, really good buy.

Bought them, tried them, Love them
I bought these on the release date and have been using them on the last few trips. I fly a small biz jet, two person crew, alternate left and right seat duties every other day.Pros:Light weight, comfortable to use even on five leg daysANR is amazingBluetooth is easy to pair with my phoneEar tips are comfortable and after a few times is super easy to insert into the earTalk through feature is fantasticBattery life is pretty goodCons:Surprising but not a deal breaker, the case is larger than I thought but is understandable because of the robust cable they use.Overall: Very happy with these headsets. They are a joy to use especially when I’m sitting in a hot airplane in Las Vegas and getting my clearance. No more ear sweats!

Bought the Bose Pro Pilot looking for a lighter more comfortable headset. I’m a regional airline pilot. For me the in ear is uncomfortable. Couldn’t get a good fit with any of the 3 sizes. And none of them satyed in my ears. Constantly readjusting so I could hear ATC. Bose is an awesome product. But I’m giving this one a thrumbs down. Going back to my A20.

Will the 6 pin connector work on the Embraer 175/190?
A shopper on Jun 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I do not know which connection is available in that aircraft.
Since the ProFlight does not appear have intercom communications volume control buttons (only Bluetooth volume buttons) on the control unit, can the communications volume be adjusted via the Bose App? If not, that would leave only the aircraft’s audio panel volume control affecting both pilots volume input and no individual adjustment for fine tuning to personal liking.
A shopper on Jun 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: In the professional cockpits for which this headset is intended, each pilot likely has an independent audio panel. Frankly, I always found the level controls on the A20 and similar headsets to be nothing more than a "gotcha" switch. Sure as the day is long, I'd accidentally turn those suckers down pulling them out of the bag or what not. I'm glad to see them gone on the ProFlight.
Can you advise what connector is suitable for the ATR 72 , as it uses the XLR5 Airbus connector ? However the aircraft will not power the headset through the panel . So I would ideally need to buy the GA twin Battery Pin with and Airbus XLR5 connector ?
Tejesh n on Jun 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I believe the XLR5 version of the ProFlight can run off aircraft power (if present) or batteries. An adapter is not needed, assuming the aircraft requires an XLR5.
Hi there! Was wondering when will the Bose Proflight with the 5XLR plug be available? And how much would it cost to be shipped over to Malaysia?
Jinji on Aug 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: We expect to ship within the next few weeks.
What will be the shipping cost to Peru?
Sergio N on Aug 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Approximately $254.00 via I-Parcel. This includes all duties and taxes.
Does the aircraft powered version also have the option to put batteries inside?
Mark L on Jul 31, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it has a battery box for power if needed.
Can you send this to a P.O. box ?
Francisco G on Jul 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No, ships UPS and requires a signature when delivered.
Bose has a 30 trial period when bought from them does Sportys?
A shopper on Jul 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, if you are not satisfied with your purchase just return the headset for a refund or exchange.
What will be the shipping cost to Uk?
Tasnuva N on Jul 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Using I-Parcel the cost would be approximately $287.00 This would include all duties, taxes and tracking information.
Does it work with a Cessna Caravan C208 ?
Allan F on Jun 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, we have a review by two of our pilots that were flying in a pc12 on our website.
Would this be good for use in a turbine helicopter?
A shopper on Jun 21, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I would not recommend them in a helicopter. I would recommend the over-ear headset.
Will Sporty's be able to ship the Bose ProFlight Headset as fast (or faster when available) than buying directly from Bose?
Jerry on Jun 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Once available we can ship overnight. The headset will be available to ship on the same day from all vendors.
With the Battery powered twin Plugs does it work without the batteries? I understand the ANR will not work but will the head set work in stereo mode (i.e. Audio for both ears)? Asking just in case the battery collapses during a flight.
Neville B on Jun 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the headset will revert to a passive headset.
Does this unit allow for the use of an aux input connection for connections without bluetooth?
A shopper on Jun 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it has an aux input connection.
How well does it work with a Cirrus SR 22?
A shopper on Jun 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The A20 will provide better ANR in a propeller-driven aircraft.
can it be used ona computer?
foxtroutromeo on Jun 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No, the connections will not fit into a computer.
Does it take batteries?
Gregg S on Jun 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes. two AA batteries for the twin plug configuration.
Working in a company with Airbus and boeing fleet, which terminations will you suggest in order to use it in the long term ( currently flying Airbus) ?
Killerloux on Jun 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I would recommend the connection that you fly the most. We currently have an adapter available to go from the XLR (Airbus) to GA and from the LEMO (6 pins) to GA.
