Lost hearing for a week - Not for Cessna Pilots!
These are good for one purpose: if you fly in a plane that somewhat dampens the noise. I fly a Cessna 172 RG. The Clarity Aloft brand was recommended to me by a guy who flies a TBM and loves them. I had a nightmare of an experience with the Clarity Aloft Link headset. I wore them on a 7.8 hour flight. I was so excited to have a pair of headphones that didn't mess up my hair and gave me the ability to cruise and listen to music.

Here's the problem: Even the largest ear plugs Clarity aloft provided did not fit nor seal my ears.... the buds you will notice are really short, I pushed them in and they disconnected from the cord multiple times. I am sure there is a trick but my first time experience was could not have been worse. Not only did I lose ~25% of my hearing after using them for a week, I had to meet with two doctors to figure out what was going on. Apparently they pushed ear wax deep into my ear. I couldn't get a good seal and kept pushing them in and well, it pushed ear wax up against my ear drum. I could not hear people sitting across from me in a restaurant. Yes, it came back.... it took 8 days, a visit with a doctor and two consultations over the phone, and a trip to walmart to get it fixed. Yes, this is the extreme... but don't skimp on headphones. Your hearing is worth it. Get something with true noise cancelling. If you "need" to have bluetooth, get the Bose A20. I now have two pair and my passengers love them. Yes, it hurts the bank account but save yourself the literal headache and get a real headset. I hesitated so long on buying the Clarity Aloft link because I couldn't find a real review.... and let me be frank, if you can get the Bose A20, get the Bose A20. I cannot recommend Clarity Aloft Link. Recommendation for the manufacturer, build a bigger ear plug that is wider, longer, and does not disconnect when someone pulls the plug out of their ear. To understand the full pain I went through to fix the problem, the doctor had me shoot a water pick into my ear at my ear drum to get the ear wax away from my ear. Hurt like heck but my hearing has restored.

Metal frame very uncomfortable to me.
Talked to a lot of pilots who used and loved this headset. I used it on a 3 day and a 4 day trip. Unfortunately, this headset does not work for me at all. The metal frame around the ears drove me crazy. I’ll be returning it and back to square one looking for a headset.

Buyer Beware
While I realize this product has its supporters, I would highly suggest you get a hold of air and USE IT for several flights PRIOR to purchasing. I found the wire frame one of the most uncomfortable things I have ever put on my head. Feels like a vise grip around your head after even a short period of time. The earplugs do not stay put and I tried several sizes. To make the unit functional you would be better off ordering a custom ear mold for the unit which adds significant cost. The unit is flimsy and the wires to the ear buds can easily be damaged. In short, get a hold of a pair before you buy and try it. You may be very disappointed.

Absolutely the best.
I fly professionally for an airline and general aviation for nearly 30 years. I don’t leave home without it. It’s light, durable, and very comfortable and quieter than any other ANR headset I’ve had.

Could be better
I've been using a Halo for years and thought this would be a step up, plus I wanted a bluetooth connection to my phone. I'm disappointed in the fit and cord/module placement. The fit is too big and there are no adjustments, unlike the Halo which can be easily adjusted to fit the size of your head. The cords and module are not very flexible and the clip is useless as it doesn't hold onto anything. Bluetooth works good so I'll keep trying to make it work for me but I'm really disappointed in it, especially for the price.

Excellent
The clarity aloft headset has been fantastic. So light compared to the Bose set that I was wearing. The noise cancelling has been really good. I was concerned that it might still be loud in the cockpit of the CRJ-900 but I have no problems hearing. Note: I did place the headset on the case overnight to stretch them out a little & They fit perfectly. No pressure on the temples.

Is there an adapter for use in helicopters?
John T on Feb 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: John, I wear it under a helmet flying a T-6. I've never worn a helicopter helmet, But believe it would have to work the same. the Clarity frame is very form fitting to the head so it takes up no space in the helmet. Don't expect the same clarity as noise reduction headphones tho.
Are they TSO'd?
