Tips on how to choose a viewing power:
To select a viewing power, consider how you will be using your Dual Eyewear. If you are a pilot looking for a clear read of instruments, you might want to consider a magnification that is a bit weaker than what you use to read a book. For example, if you use 2.0 readers at home or at the office, try a 1.5. We recommend this because of the extended distance to instruments.

Why we don't sell polarized sunglasses
Many sunglasses today are polarized, meaning they use an optical filter to reduce glare. While this is fine for fishing or driving, it's a bad idea for pilots. That's because many cockpit instruments and glass panels have polarized faces, and polarized sunglasses will render these unreadable. In addition, the iPad screen will be blacked out in portrait orientation when wearing polarized sunglasses. Sporty's sells a wide variety of high-quality sunglasses that do an excellent job of reducing glare--but without polarization.

I purchased the sunglasses as a back up to a pair I already own from another manufacturer. After trying the new glasses while on a flight this week......I found them very comfortable and useable. I'm glad I made the purchase.

Better than using readers over my normal sunglasses
Bought these to make reading avionics easier on the G1000 and stand-by instruments. I was having to ditch my normal sunglasses and use "readers" to see numbers and indications sharp and clear. Sometimes I would just wear readers placed in front of my sunglasses. I know it looks funny, but it works (kind of like how duct tape and bailing wire works). Purchased the Dual Q1 sunglasses thinking, "What the hell, let me give them a try." First flight wore them and they worked better than I expected. Top edge of magnification doesn't interfere with seeing over the glare shield when taking off or landing. Lateral edges provide enough field of view to were I don't have to twist my head excessively to read instruments on the other counsel. Would recommend these sunglasses for any pilot who wears "readers" to make letters and numbers sharper.

Comparison of Q1 to AV2
I own both the Q1 and AV2....the AV2 is a bigger lens and with the wrap-around frame, provides more sun protection.

However, the Q1's smaller lens height means I don't have to tilt my head back as much to see the instruments through the diopters. Also, the tips of the Q1 arms don't touch the lens when folded up, so it can take more compression when stuffed in a tight bag. The Dual case is only rigid in the front, but soft in the back so the AV2 is at risk of scratches from the arm tips as they touch the lens when folded.
