The ANR occasionally cuts out - for seemingly no reason. The button to turn it on can be tricky to operate while flying. But even without the ANR they're better than the PNR sets I had been using.April 29, 2019Purchased

7 months agoDurability5 / 5Reliability2 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5Would You Recommend?Yes4-star headset, 5 star serviceThis is really more a story about Sporty's than the headset, but will fulfill the review portion first. Background: Low time pilot, have an older generation of the Faro ANR headset for myself and have had NOTHING bad to say about them after 100 or so hours of use. Bought this set for my wife, and they sat around for several months before she was able to go flying with me on an 8-hour vacation flight. During the initial liftoff of the trip her headset got wonky, opening the channel when she wasn't talking, and closing the channel when she was. The symptoms ebbed and flowed, it was seemingly a loose wire in one of the plugs. Contacted Sporty's with the expectation that after so much time since purchase there would be some repair cost. Not only was I not charged for the repair, they sent a whole new unit free of charge. I can't say enough good things about how Sporty's has treated me.January 25, 2019Durability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5Would You Recommend?YesAs advertisedWorks great for me! I bought as a starter headset for training, and I actually like they way it fits my head better than the Bose that I use on a friends airplane. I have not been disappointed. Great bang for the buck. I actually took with me on a commercial flight and banged out my music in first class through my headset. I’ve been using for 6 months and will probably by another for my oldest kid when they fly with me.September 5, 2018Would You Recommend?NoTerribleThis is the worst headset I have ever tried. Very uncomfortable. The ear seal fell off after the first half hour of use. I could only hear out of one side. Sportys said that was because I needed to use the stereo mono switch which is located underneath the battery case and is impossible to get to. My ears were ringing after the flight because the headset didn’t cancel any noise. I returned it after the first day. Twenty years ago I had a 100 dollar headset that worked better than this.July 22, 2018Purchased

First one I received had an issue but was replaced promptly. Good service after the sale from both Sporty's and Faro.June 18, 2018Durability5 / 5Reliability2 / 5Performance3 / 5Ease Of Use3 / 5Value3 / 5Would You Recommend?NoSeemingly wonderful, but surprisingly inconsistentI received a pair of Faro Stealths for Christmas this year and was so excited to have them for my upcoming student cross country flights. They seemed like a perfect answer to listening fatigue that I would sometimes get using my old David Clarks.
I've used these now for 5 months and 25 hours of flight time and have had inconsistent results from them throughout. The main problems are:
The ANR shuts of randomly. Sometimes it will stay on for an hour before shutting itself off and sometimes about 10 minutes. But it invariable turns off at least once during a flight - and at the most inopportune moments. It has happened in the middle of a conversation with ATC, while chatting with my instructor and while solo and listening to music. Rather random.
As others have reported, it does eat batteries and its lack of aux DC input means one must keep batteries handy and be ready to change them in a well-lit space as they're a bit difficult to get in and out of the battery compartment.
I wear glasses and the arms of said glasses cause the ear-pads to not fit perfectly well around my ears. This was not a problem with the old David Clarks or a pair of Bose I've borrowed once in a while - the ear-pads on those headsets were soft enough that they fit around my glasses arms and made a nice seal with the side of my head. But these ear-pads do not and so they let in a little bit of extra noise. It's not terrible, but it is annoying.
Also, as of yesterday, the right speaker no longer functions. I have read that this is due to the mono-stereo switch in the battery compartment, and, in fact, I had just changed the batteries, but I cannot confirm that this switch was the cause of the problem.
In the end, I think one's money might be spent better elsewhere. These seem like a great value, but the constant deactivation of the ANR, the poor placement of the stereo-mono switch in the battery compartment, the lack of DC power input and the poor ear seals seems to make these a little less than ideal.
If the random shut-off of the ANR could be fixed, I'd give them a better rating as that is really the largest issue, and at some level, a safety issue that really needs to be resolved.May 8, 2018Would You Recommend?NoSo far not so good........So far I am not overly impressed with these headphones. The ANR shuts off prematurely for some reason. I only have about 3 hours flying time and will be contacting the manufacturer to see if I can get this problem worked out. I will update this review later depending on how it goes with the warranty.April 4, 2018Purchased
1 year agoDurability3 / 5Reliability1 / 5Performance3 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value4 / 5Would You Recommend?NoANR kept shutting offI used this unit for about 5 ~1hr flights and the ANR would just shut-off at random which was very distracting and I'd have to reach and turn it back on. At first I thought it was bad batteries but after 3 battery changes I gave up on these and returned them.
When they worked they were quite comfortable (more so than the flight school rentals) and the ANR was quite decent. I just didn't have time to exchange them and be without a headset in the middle of my schooling so I bought some Lightspeeds and returned these. Sporty's CS was great about getting this done.February 2, 2018Purchased
