I fly professionally, approximately 800-1000 hours per year, mostly cross country and low level in rotorcraft. It is imperative in my work that I am able to use these types of apps to create and edit flight plans quickly and effectively. Instead of a rant let me just name the pros and cons :
Pros: It works with Android AND iOS. (that's it.. that's the ONLY pro).
1) Constantly fails
2) Hard to do anything other than simple point to point flight plans. If you are a rotorcraft operator DO NOT use this app.
3) Features are terrible as compared to foreflight.
4) Synthetic vision available on foreflight makes garmin pilot look like it should be a free app.
5) Fuel prices are never correct.
6) App is SLOW to load and fails 50% of the time when trying to load a flight plan with more than 10 or so waypoints.
7) Does not have Satellite image overlays.
8) Flight planning functions are unpredictable. Sometimes they are accurate sometimes not... I have NOT figured out way.
9) Garmin support is terrible.
10) I would highly recommend buying an iOS system (ipad, iphone, whatever) and purchase foreflight.
Garmin Pilot app is terrible in every way.January 27, 2019Durability4 / 5Reliability3 / 5Performance3 / 5Ease Of Use2 / 5Value2 / 5Would You Recommend?YesGarmin Pilot and the early learning curve.I think I should have utilized the free trials with both Foreflight App and Garmin App before I purchased Garmin Pilot.
I needed to be more familiar with the capability of Both Apps before I decided to purchase the VFR Garmin Pilot App.
I am definitely new on the learning curve with Garmin Pilot.

Called Garmin and got good instruction on installation.December 27, 2016Durability4 / 5Reliability4 / 5Performance4 / 5Ease Of Use4 / 5Value5 / 5Very goodFairly easy to use. More updated manual is needed with updates. Where I had issues tech support was very helpful.February 24, 2016Durability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use4 / 5Value4 / 5product is fine , Customer Service stinks!!!!First off i have been flying for 73 years so not a student pilot. I have been using the Garmin Pilot for a year and it has worked great, no problems of any kind. Problem is my subscription was running out so got a new one year subscription on 9/16/15. Have not been able to down load it on my Nexus7 . All i get is a message saying my license has expired. Have tried to get them to refund my $80.05 but have never received even an email. Looks like they have my money and i got nothing. Use caution when purchasing any thing from Garmin.September 26, 2015Durability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5Pros: very easy to use and acces Cons: noneNovember 1, 2012Durability4 / 5Reliability4 / 5Performance2 / 5Ease Of Use2 / 5Value4 / 5Pros: A decent program once you learn how to use it. Also, with the promotion, ($50) it was pretty affordable. Cons: Takes way to long and you have to go to three separate tabs to plan a flight, program is not as intuitive as Foreflight, and it doesn't have very convenient ways of checking TAFS. Customer Service was great, when I had issues learning to use the product the were extremely helpful, which is worth a lot. This should actually be a part of my product review, because I think we've all had poor customer service experiences and Garmin definitely is good in this area. Thanks!October 29, 2012
