However, I feel I would have failed both if I had relied on Sporty's course for initial knowledge acquisition.
I began by carefully reading the ASA Instrument Flying Handbook and making detailed notes. I took ground and flight instruction from a local instructor. After starting training, I started viewing the Sporty's videos. The videos do NOT provide the knowledge necessary to pass the exam, but they do give a feel for the IFR experience and some of the requirements. There is no mention of the IACRA process; my instructor had to help with that.
On the other hand, the Sporty's test prep tools were extremely helpful with passing the written and oral exams, and I plan to continue using the practice tests to help maintain currency. There were some questions on the exam that had not been on the practice tests.
My instructor also used the Sporty's syllabus as a training guide and checklist, and it is useful for that.
Overall, the course is very easy to use and has a lot of value, just don't depend on the videos to pass the exam.- Was this review helpful? Yes (0) No (0)

Durability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value4 / 5Would You Recommend?YesGreat for FAA Knoweldge Test Prep WorkThe videos do a great job of explaining some of the FAA knowledge test questions in better clarity. Plus, the material in this course is presented in a logical order and is very easy to understand. Also, the tips presented for basic attitude instrument (BAI) flying have helped me smooth out my flying skills a lot as I progress through my instrument training.- Was this review helpful? Ease Of Use5 / 5Value4 / 5Would You Recommend?YesInstrument CourseEasy to use. Ihaven't completed it, so can't comment on how wellit prepares one for the written exam. Because I've had a military helicopter instrument rating for years, it is serving as a refresher and update in may respects. I do plan to go through the entire certification process for an airplane instrument rating. This seems well suited for me.- Was this review helpful? Yes (2) No (0)

Durability3 / 5Reliability3 / 5Performance3 / 5Ease Of Use3 / 5Value1 / 5Would You Recommend?NoJust an overview, not detailed enoughThis course was definitely not worth the price paid. It’s really not an in depth study course at all. They only cover the bare minimum of IFR in the videos. I felt as though I was doing well by the little tests after the videos, but they don’t reflect the actual test questions.
The course does include the FAA books that you can download, but those are already available at the FAA website, so you really aren’t gaining much by purchasing it.
I watched the videos and tried to take a sample test afterwards and didn’t even know the answers to the first 5 questions. Very disappointed. I am now looking for more study materials to take the written.
I feel as though I would’ve been better off watching YouTube videos and reading on the internet than using this course.
Basically, this material gives a good overview, but isn’t good enough to pass the written and it’s definitely not worth $199 in my opinion.- Was this review helpful? Yes (1) No (0)

I want to have the availability to use this while I travel commercially, where I don't always have an internet connection. If I get the Ipad/Iphone app choice, can I access it also on my Mac Computer offline if I download it?BEST ANSWER: You don't even have to go go the Mac if you don't want to. On the Ipad version it gives you the option of streaming the video, or downloading it. If you're going on a trip, just download 5 or 10 episodes or however many you think you can watch in the time span you'll be gone. It just takes up your data on the iPad, so when you're done or return home, delete them off of your device.- Reply

I'm looking at buying an iPad- but I'm not sure how much memory space I need for Sporty's and other aviation apps, etc. can you give me an idea what kind of space Sporty's requires?
Thank youBEST ANSWER: Agree with the other answer. On my iPhone, which is the same as the iPad, under settings it tells me the Instrument course only takes up 73.3MB. You stream the videos. There is an option to download videos, if you are going out of wifi or for whatever reason want to have access to the video where you cannot otherwise stream it. But if you don't download the videos and store them on your local memory (iPad or iPhone) then the program itself only takes approx. 75MB...not much.- Reply
