Its durable, because I’ve dropped it several times and it doesn’t even have a scratch, there is just one button that is the power button so using it doesn’t get any easier, there is an auto shutoff switch which is amazing, and it’s tracking and ADS-B works super well.July 15, 2019Purchased

Only had it a short time but so far it is working as advertised. A friend of mine has recommended an external antenna but I will just wait and see if it needs it.July 8, 2019Purchased
3 weeks agoResponse from Sporty's Pilot ShopPlease note that it is using Wifi to display the traffic on your iPad.July 8, 2019Doug RDurability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5Would You Recommend?YesAfter one use, will NEVER fly without itI took the Stratus 3 on a dual cross country (with my instructor) the day I received it in the mail. It was very easy to setup and use right out of the box.
I'm so glad that I decided to bring it along because we experienced extreme weather on the flight back to my home airport and the weather info on the iPad (ForeFlight) was only two minutes old compared to the weather on the in-dash Garmin which was about 7 to 8 minutes old. Those few minutes were so valuable because we were able to safely land at an alternate airport and wait for the weather to pass. I will NEVER fly without the Stratus again.July 3, 2019Durability3 / 5Reliability1 / 5Performance1 / 5Ease Of Use2 / 5Value1 / 5Would You Recommend?NoFrustrated with my new Stratus 3??I recently ordered and received a brand new Stratus 3 through Sporty’s and am honestly very disappointed with my first trip experience for a few reasons. Primarily:
1. The calibration won’t stay locked and steady. Many times, when I would select the AHRS setting, the horizon would indicate about 120 degrees roll to the right or left and “recalibrating” it through the iPad settings button produce this jittery result and even it didn’t “stick.” I finally turned it off for the duration of the trip as it was only a distraction.
2. 3-5 times during the one leg of the trip I needed it most as a backup (low ceilings), both iPads completely LOST the stratus altogether.
The whole experience has left me with a severely diminished sense of reliability in this unit. I’m reasonably sure this isn’t the norm and would really like some assistance on what to do to regain my confidence in the Stratus line.
Please advise.June 29, 2019Purchased
1 month agoResponse from Sporty's Pilot ShopI am sorry you are having issues with the calibration. Please ensure that you have the latest firmware. Appaero has updated the firmware. To obtain the firmware please download the Stratus Horizon App. from the Apple App store. This app contains the firmware update. If updating the firmware does not correct the issue please try the following, ensure that the unit is mounted and then turned the unit on as it goes through the calibration process during boot. If this does not correct the issue then go to the Foreflight settings and enable the do not use manufacturer AHARS setting. Fore the disconnecting from the iPad, this is a known issue that should be corrected by the firmware update. If it does not in the setting for the Stratus turn off the auto shutoff setting. Please contaact me at 513.735.9100 ext 316 if these steps do not resolved the issues.July 9, 2019Eric CPerformance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5Would You Recommend?YesFirst time out it saved me.My first flight with the stratus and using foreflight on the I pad it saved me from a potential mid-air collision. I was flying straight and level when a red banner came up alerting me of traffic at 12 O'clock. I could see it on the fore flight climbing straight at me. I strained to see it out the window but could not get a visual on the other aircraft. Finally I made a 45 to the left and looked over to my right and as soon as the other plane was above the horizon I could see it with my eyes, approximately where I would have been had I not turned. I won't fly with out it the stratus from now on!June 18, 2019Purchased

I will say that it's been very easy to use with both ForeFlight and WingX Pro. Easy to connect to older IPad Mini's as well as IPad Pro. Very excited to see how the WX works, and we had good service in the Back Country of Idaho.
I would recommend this product.June 17, 2019Purchased

While flying the unit has shutoff on AND frequently disconnects from my FltplanGo app. Yesterday, I had to reconnect the app to the Status 4 times during my 4hr flight. The disconnect occurs while the Status is still operating.May 22, 2019Purchased

Browse 81 questions Browse 81 questions and 95 answersCan you present a side-by-side comparison between my Stratus 2 and a Stratus 3 so I can make an informed decision as to whether I need or want the additional features? Is there a trade in or upgrade program for the Stratus 2 I bought earlier this year?Looks like none of the improvements over the S2 are hardware features. Will there be a software upgrade for the S2 to enable the same features or is this a way to push people to buy a new device? Would really like to see a software upgrade path here for everybody that has the S2.BEST ANSWER: Appareo is working on a firmware update, and some (but not all) of these new features will be available for older Stratus units. What are the improvements over Stratus 2?Will the stratus 3 work with the Jeppesen FD on the Microsoft Windows platform?BEST ANSWER: Stratus 3 will work with most other apps using the GDL 90 format.Any issues of powering off due to over heating?BEST ANSWER: I just flew my first flight and placed the stratus 3 same location as I use to place stratus 2, during flight I noted a comment on my ForeFlight that stratus 3 was about to overheat , never saw this in years with stratus 2.Will the new 3 fit in the window mount that came with the 2S?BEST ANSWER: Yes, the Stratus 3 is the same size as the 2S and will work in the suction cup mount.I bought the S1 early on. I have been hoping that Stratus would at some point give a trade allowance in order to upgrade. Do you think that will ever happen?BEST ANSWER: There is a trade-in program for Stratus 2S but not for Stratus 1 at this time. Will this work with the same connectors on the ESGI?BEST ANSWER: It is mentioned in a later post that the Stratus 2 connector to Stratus ESG uses a different cable than the 3. I have the Stratus 2/ESG setup, I guess I will have to get a new cable if i upgrade. Can you provide a comparison between the Stratus 3 and Foreflights Sentry?BEST ANSWER: There are 2 significant differences (aside from the price difference) between the Stratus 3 and Sentry. 1) The Stratus 3 has GDL 90 support, the Sentry does not and 2) the Stratus has external antenna connections. What this means to the end user is that the Sentry will *only* work with ForeFlight while the Stratus is compatible with any app that accepts the GDL 90 input. Also, you can mount the Stratus more permanently by taking advantage of the external antenna connections and keep it tucked away in the cockpit. There are some other minor differences (size, default mounting options, etc) that can be found elsewhere, but these are (I think) less significant. When will be in stock?BEST ANSWER: Should be in stock on July 20th.What are the advantages of the Stratus3 over the newly announced Sentry model?BEST ANSWER: Flight data recording, smart WiFi connection, auto shut off, and Open ADS-B so it will work with multiple apps. There are also options for external antennas on the Stratus 3, so it can be remote mounted.I have a Stratus 2, not 2S installed in my plane and connected to my Stratus ESG using the factory wiring kit. Is the new Stratus 3 connection port exactly the same and comparable with my current set up? I know there was a difference between versions 1 and 2.BEST ANSWER: The ADS-B antenna is the same. The power/GPS cable has a different connection at the Stratus unit.
The Cable is available for $37.50, item 7098A.Regarding your Stratus-3 ADSB receiver, What is the price for the map display software, and what is it being displayed on? Thanks, Bob KBEST ANSWER: The software in the screenshots above is ForeFlight and it is displayed on an iPad. Subscriptions start at $99.99/year.Does the WiFi icon not show up in the top left corner anymore when you are connected to Stratus?BEST ANSWER: That's correct. The Smart WiFi in Stratus 3 is telling the iPad that WiFI is only for short range data transfer, not internet connection, so the iPad will not show a WiFi symbol up there. You can still check in ForeFlight to verify Stratus is connected. Why does the Stratus 3 not come with the suction cup mount any longer? The “In the Box” section doesn’t appear to have the suction cup mount listed as an included item as it did on the 2S. Is this correct or is it a typo in the description?BEST ANSWER: The manufacturer went back to the dash mount based on customer feedback. The suction cup is available for purchase and fits the Stratus 3.I’m flying from KPBI (West Palm Beach, FL) to SPJC (Lima, Peru) using ForeFlight’s Jepp charts. I am completely satisfied with my purchase of the Status 3. If you would like to view some videos on the capabilities of the Stratus 3, they are available on both the Sporty's website as well as youtube. Hope this helps and good flying.Does the stratus 3 have ADSB out or just ADSB in ?BEST ANSWER: Should be ADS-B in since it is a receiver vice transmitter (no out signal except wifi).I'm a Stratus 2 owner and am looking to upgrade to a pressure-altitude solution. Am I correct that the main differences between the Sentry and Stratus 3 are 12 hr vs. 8 hr battery life, and closed vs. open architecture? A trade-in program would definitely help bridge the gap.BEST ANSWER: One other difference: Stratus 3 has external antenna options so it can be remote mounted.
