ANR without batteries!
Telex's latest headset builds on the tradition of the Airman 750—the most popular lightweight aviation headset in the world. The new Airman ANR 850 is the next generation, with advances in clarity, comfort and convenience.

Clarity
The Airman ANR 850 adds up to 12dB of active noise reduction, specifically aimed at reducing wind noise in jet cockpits. An amplified electret mic provides the clearest communications, and features a fully flexible boom.

Comfort
Weighing less than 4 oz., the Airman ANR 850 is the lightest headset available with ANR. And with new, larger ear cushions, you’ll hardly notice it’s there.

Convenience
The ANR feature is completely powered by mic bias, meaning absolutely no batteries and no panel installation—it’s hassle-free ANR. Also includes a “set and forget” volume control and a folding design that fits easily into the included headset case. The Airman 850 is available for Airbus and does not require specialized intercom adapters.

Sporty's Test Flight Guarantee
Take your new headset flying and make sure it's the right choice for you. If you're not thrilled, return the headset to us within 30 days and in the same condition in which you received it - we'll exchange it for another headset or refund your money. There's no paperwork and no hassle. Just another reason why Sporty's is the #1 headset dealer in aviation.

Use in Lear Jet
I was very disappointed in the performance of these headsets. I bought two to replace old David Clark DC Pro X models. As compared to those, the ANR on these is subpar as is the ear fit. With no adjustment available aside from the fit over the head, they do not conform to your ears very well. Additionally, the lack of padding on the head band makes for an uncomfortable fit for any amount of time over an hour. Even then it is less comfortable than the DC Pro X. The microphone did not pick up as well as the other headsets and I found myself having to adjust the mic all the time to key it up. There is minimal volume adjustment available on the headset. It is a switch that allows you to select either low or high. We found that low was too low and high was too loud. All in all, very disappointed in the product.

Disappointing in the Airbus
I had read and heard mixed reviews, and decided to try it out for myself. Unfortunately I was very disappointed and had to return it after two days of flying with it. While it did a decent job blocking out the higher frequency wind noise, it did nothing for the low frequency noise in the cockpit, and so I ended up constantly trying to find a volume setting where I could clearly understand both ATC communications and intercom without turning up the volume too high. It might be more effective in other airplane models.

Pros: High quality headset. ANR is quite effective in a jet cockpit. Made in the U.S.A. No batteries! Good price, at least when compared to other brand headsets. Cons: The cable running through the headband has too much slack for an average sized head, but the cable can be "folded" and "zip-tied", making for a neater looking headset. Can't say much about durability, as I own it for only one week, but considering the high quality, I hope it lasts for long time.

Pros: I have been using the Airman 750 for the last 18 years, since receiving the 850's it's a pleasure to wear them with a marked difference in noise on the flight deck as well a superior sound quality. Cons: None noted yet.. Excellent Big Brother to the Airman 750's

Pros: Lightweight, very comfortable ear cushions, can wear for extended periods of time over Airman 750, good level of noise reduction. Good enough jump in quality and effectiveness to cause consideration of replacing a second Airman 750 set. Cons: None we can see. A superior replacement to an established reliable product. A replacement for Airman 750 which had its mike boom work loose at the pivot attach point and would not retain position. Attach point appears identical so we will see if durability is better or not.

I have been having trouble lately regarding my Telex airman 850. I constantly hear a ringing noise whenever i go on intercomm. My partner hears the same thing whenever i go on hot mic. It causes some discomfort for both of us. I'm not sure if this particular model doesn't match the A380 avionics?
