THIS UNIT COULD BE CAUSITIVE IN A MISHAP WHERE A BACKUP COM/NAV/GPS IS REQUIRED IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. The FTA-750L will NOT accept a GPS input (waypoint) directly on the handset; apparently the only way this unit can have a waypoint input is by using the "optional" computer (PC/LAPTOP ONLY) software to load data. This renders it USELESS as a GPS when off-station or airborne, especially if an operator is attempting to input a GPS waypoint in the aircraft, as in a NORDO situation. This unit would require extensive programming prior to each flight to be a suitable back-up. Additionally, YAESU's customer service is virtually non-existent. The California offices' automated phone system does not connect you to a live human, and the voicemail boxes are "full" When I DID connect with a human, I was told they were having "technical issues" with the phones (bad start for a COM-NAV company) - and that the single, sole person who was a Subject Matter Expert on this unit would call me back. I received one voicemail and after that, no follow-up. YAESU apparently does not value customers in general , OR Sporty's customers specifically. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND AVOIDING YAESU products due to this lack of customer service, and STRONGLY RECOMMEND that ANY PILOT AVOID the YAESU FTA-750L, as it will NOT function as a suitable back-up / Emergency unit - in fact it could be causative in a mishap. I STRONGLY suggest that Sporty's investigates to protect it's own reputation for excellent products - YAESU is not helping.June 12, 2019Purchased
5 months agoDurability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5Would You Recommend?YesExcellent emergency radio with GPS/VOR/ILS capabilitiesMy Yaesu FTA-750 is excellent. I got it primarily for emergency use and am thankful I haven’t had to use it in those circumstances. In addition to being an emergency radio, it’s also a solid piece of backup GPS and VOR navigation equipment. It even performs ILS approaches. If it’s possible to lose your entire glass instrument panel and still have your engine(s), you can use the Yaesu FTA-750 to alert ATC and other traffic of your problem(s) and give you the instruments to get you on the ground safely.I won’t fly alone without the Yaesu, my iPhone and iPad all fully charged. The latter two have ForeFlight. Yes, I freely admit all that redundancy sounds over-the-top.The Yaesu FTA 750L is easy to learn to use, and it has more storage for frequencies than I can imagine using.March 13, 2019Purchased

1 year agoDurability4 / 5Reliability4 / 5Performance4 / 5Ease Of Use4 / 5Value4 / 5Would You Recommend?YesGood ProductFairly easy to set up with the included instructions; & I’m not particularly techno-savvy.
Once programmed it’s as easy to use as the time / effort I put into its set up makes it.
I picked it over Sporty’s radio for $$-value & accessories. In other words, for $50 more, the Yaesu radio had additional features & a significant accessory package included where the Sporty radio would’ve required another $100 (above the radio cost) for similar inclusions. Unless I misunderstood the product details.October 28, 2018Purchased

I haven’t used it in a plane yet but it appears to be very well made I get clear sound on the WX channel. I like the instruction booklet which I’m finding easy to understand. This unit appears to be user friendly and I think its a good value with all the included accessories. I highly recommend itMay 13, 2018Purchased

A little bit harder to operate, but nothing for a pilot to figure out! The basic functions are available and simple to acquire and use!January 3, 2018Purchased
1 year agoDurability1 / 5Reliability1 / 5Performance1 / 5Ease Of Use2 / 5Value1 / 5Would You Recommend?NoFailed After Two MonthsFunctioned great initially. A little complicated, but lots of features. I liked that it connected to the computer and I could input frequencies. However, after a few months, I could not hear any air traffic. The only thing I could pick up was Norcal Approach. I would be a few hundred yards from the tower at Reed-Hillview and nothing. Near the runway in Watsonville and nothing.
I'd write it off to "pilot error," however, I a few weeks before I was picking up all frequencies. The antenna fell off frequently, so I suspect there was something wrong with the connection.
Returned for credit. I will buy another brand.October 6, 2017Purchased
