We’ve taken the liberty of renaming these sunglasses “FLIERS” because we wouldn’t fly without them.
We’ve taken the liberty of renaming these sunglasses “FLIERS” because we wouldn’t fly without them. They’re the most scientifically advanced in the world, using the famous Drivers lens to slash glare, enhance contrast and reduce eye fatigue. Preferred by professional pilots and race car drivers for their extraordinary performance characteristics and true color definition. The gradient copper lens is photochromic to continuously optimize the amount of light reaching your eye. The advanced Spectral Control System filters “blue” light to reduce blurring and minimize the effects of haze and glare. The lenses far exceed ANSI sunglass standards by blocking 100% of UVB and 99% of UVA rays. Each pair includes a simulated leather hard-side carrying case.

Features:

  • Frame Color: Black
  • Lens Color: Drivers Gradient
  • Sizing: Base curve 6 Rx
  • Temple Length: 140mm
  • Lens Size: 63.8 x 55.4  x 67.5mm DBL 13mm
  • Made in Italy

The Drivers Gradient Lens provides a crystal-clear view in all conditions.  They allow only 9% light transmittance on the top of the glasses and up to 24% on the bottom.  The molecules in the lens adjust when the light does.  Your eyes don't have to make the adjustments because the sunglasses do that for you (reducing eyestrain).  This technology is inherent in the glass and will never fade or wear off (Photochromic Technology).

Why we don't sell polarized sunglasses
Many sunglasses today are polarized, meaning they use an optical filter to reduce glare. While this is fine for fishing or driving, it's a bad idea for pilots. That's because many cockpit instruments and glass panels have polarized faces, and polarized sunglasses will render these unreadable. In addition, the iPad screen will be blacked out in portrait orientation when wearing polarized sunglasses. Sporty's sells a wide variety of high quality sunglasses that do an excellent job of reducing glare--but without polarization.
