Integrated Weather Replay

Great unit, but IPad hard to read
The only negative thing I can say really has nothing to do with the Sentry unit. It works very well with Foreflight. The only thing negative to say has to do with the difficulty in reading an iPad in bright sunlight. It would seem that someone could develop a screen that is readable in bright sunlight and at a reasonable price.

Sentry works well as advertized
Sentry is brand new to me and used very little to date, but functions nicely as advertised. I purchased it after repeated difficulties connecting my iPad by Bluetooth with Garmin GDL devices in our rental aircraft. So far, so good. I can't yet comment on durability.

Disconnected from IPad during instrument approach
I would be 5/5 but I’ve already had it disconnect on me during an instrument approach. It’s only happened once so I am going to keep an eye on it.

All Features Seem to Work
This device packs a lot in a small unit. I have flown about 10 hours with it and it seems to perform well. I link it to an iPad Mini and a regular iPad at the same time. The only problem I have experienced is losing connectivity on the iPad Mini. Don't know what the issue is. When I re-connect the Wi-Fi on the Mini it starts working again.
I mount mine on the left window, it is out of the way and does not overheat which was always a problem with the Stratus.
I haven't tested the Carbon Monoxide tester.

I recently purchased a Sentry to replace an aging Stratus 2. It’s compact size and long battery life are the features that attracted me to Sentry initially. It does not disappoint. I now have about 20 hours of use and am very happy with the switch. The vacuum mount included with the Sentry and it’s compact size make it easy to mount it conveniently without blocking any sightlines. It connects to ADS-B and GPS quickly and reliably. I would highly recommend this for ForeFlight users.

What’s the difference between this device and stratus 3?

BEST ANSWER: The Sentry has no external antenna connections, a longer battery life of 12 hours and a CO detector. The Stratus 3 has flight data recording, external antenna connections, and is capable of working with apps other than ForeFlight.
Other than the CO2 monitor, what is the primary difference between this and the scout which costs less than half of what this unit retails for?

BEST ANSWER: Scout does not have a built in GPS, battery, or AHRS for backup attitude. It only does ADS-B.
Does this support GLONASS or only GPS? Also what about the new GPS frequencies that are coming online L2 and L5?

BEST ANSWER: It just offers more options for mounting - you could mount the Stratus semi-permanently under the panel or in the back of the airplane, and use an external antenna to maintain good reception. The other benefit would be in areas of marginal ADS-B coverage, where that antenna improves reception. However, most of the time it's not a big issue.
After 5 hours charging the pwr light is blue not green. This normal?

BEST ANSWER: My initial charge took longer than 10-15 minutes. But honestly I don't recall the total time. If you leave it on the charger the unit will shut the lights down when fully charged. Blue light while charging. Disconnect the power and turn the unit on it will display level of charge via light colors.
Will this unit function normally in flight while charging? Such as forgetting to charge before a flight and don’t have time to charge prior to departure.

BEST ANSWER: Yes, the Sentry can be used world wide. The FIS-B functionality will only work in the US and UK but all other functionality will be supported world wide. You'll still have GPS, CO monitor, ADS-B Traffic reception, and AHRS regardless of location.

BEST ANSWER: Like all ADS-B receivers, you'll need to be in flight to get reception most of the time. Coverage is quite good above about 1500 ft. AGL, but like VOR the reception does depend on line of sight.
Is the weather resolution the same as an XM weather unit?

BEST ANSWER: For the most part it's the same, except that ADS-B radar only shows good resolution within about 150-250 miles of your airplane. SiriusXM weather is full resolution nationwide. So if you're comparing radar at long distance, the ADS-B will be noticeably blockier.

BEST ANSWER: We are currently out of stock of this product so I can not check the manual. I believe it is about 150 degrees that it will shut down. At approximately 115 degrees it will not charge.
I lose wifi all the time when I fly? Does anyone else lose wifi when crossing borders or going past 10500

BEST ANSWER: I was having the same problem with my Sentry. I called the manufacturer directly and spoke with their technical support. I was advised that my device required a firmware update to resolve the issue. That seems to have corrected the problem. Good luck!
Had an issue with a new Sentry. Received it and connected to iPad and all good. Worked fine and saw SW flight flying overhead. Plugged in iPad charger overnight and blue light was on and then off in the morning so fully charged. Took it to the aircraft and problems. First, I pressed the power button to turn on and all good, but it would not shut down. Pushed and pushed and nothing. Also, while it connected to the same iPad yesterday, today nothing. I contacted FF and one of the techs suggested that I could have overcharged and messed up the BMS...battery management system. I used my normal Apple iPad usb charging block. Does this sound possible or did I just get a bad unit? Anyone know what the specific charging voltage should be. I thought USB C’s were 3 volts, but not sure. Thanks

Have heard with multiple reports that the Sentry reception is not as good as the Stratus. Has that improved over the last year or is the Stratus still better?

BEST ANSWER: The reception is about the same for the units. Stratus may pick up and additional tower or two but that does not affect the information that is being received. ADS-B requires only one tower.
