Which cable do I need?

Most headsets come in multiple cable configurations. Choosing the right one is pretty easy, it just depends on what type of aircraft you fly:

  • Battery powered, twin plugs - this is by far the most common style, with separate microphone and headphone plugs (so-called PJ plugs). Almost every airplane ever built has these two plugs in the panel, so these headsets are universal. The only downside is that, for ANR headsets, you will need to use AA batteries to power the headset.
  • Aircraft powered, 6-pin plug - the second most popular style, sometimes called the "LEMO plug," requires no batteries since it is powered by the panel. This is convenient, but it does require the 6-pin plug to be installed in the panel. While many newer airplanes come with this option, most older airplanes do not. For these applications, you'll need to have your avionics shop wire in the plug - not a big job, but not something pilots can do on their own.
  • Helicopter plug - helicopters use a single, shorter plug (that is not compatible with airplanes). This is not like the 6-pin plug above, however, since an ANR helicopter headset will still need AA batteries. The only confusing part is that some helicopters also have a 6-pin (or LEMO) plug. In these helicopters, there are two different single plug connections.

Headset plug versionsWhen in doubt, we recommend buying the battery powered, twin plug model. This is the most universal option, and will work in almost any airplane. If you have a 6-pin plug in your airplane or you plan to install one, the aircraft powered model is a nice option.

Quiet / comfortable / no tangle new cord

PLUS:

1- New cord (PFX quality)

2- Great ANR and Clarity (Clarity is the main reason I did not buy the Tango)

3- Solid feel and looks

4- 40 hours of use (compared to my PFX 20hrs)

5- Great product at the right price point (I fly with PFX and Zulu 3 are perfect for passengers) you don't have this variety with Bose, this fact, along with comfort, was the reason I decided to fly with Lightspeeed.

CONS:

1- No clip ( I purchased a phone clip: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007CBSBM4/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) Works perfectly as it is very narrow fitting on either side, so I am using it on the right for Copilot and rear passenger and on the left for my rear passenger. This way, everybody can hang the unit on the right or left pocket accordingly.

Can the clamping force be adjusted on the Lightspeed Zulu 3 Headset? I have a problem when my temples gets squeezed to hard.

BEST ANSWER: I haven't noticed too much pressure on my temples, and I have a very very large head. I'm able to adjust the pressure enough by expanding the headset headband to accommodate my head size as well as limiting ear pressure. I've been very happy with this headset.
Does the helicopter cord include the battery box or not?

My airline uses a 5-pin XLR plug with company supplied telex headset. I currently use a Bose QC25 headset at cruise alt on 777. Is there an adapter plug or XLR 5-pin plug that i can connect to my Bose headset. Or does the Zulu 3 headset have a headset cable to use so I can plug in to the XLR 5-pin jack on my 777 ? Thanks for your help.

Does the headset stop working if the 9 volt dies or just the ANR stops (headseat continues to function)?
