This course is lacking specific data that one MUST know. I feel a pilot would be very dangerous using this course as their only form of ground school.

I haven't competed the online course or taken the test yet, but so far, the course is a little less than advertised. It hasn't been updated to the new standards, still several mentions of the ADF, NDB's, and other outdated information.

Online Instrument Course
I haven't completed the course yet, but so far it is exactly what I had heard it would be. Very good production-wise, although for the inexperienced pilot, it might be a bit vague in some areas.

Great IFR Refresher source
I purchased this course originally as a big awkward DVD set while I was working on my instrument. Now that I'm refreshing for my own good and my ATP, this course is great. The online version can be accessed anywhere/anytime! And the material is exactly what I need.

Failed test
This course is great for learning things about the instrument course, but when it comes to passing your written it lacks in many areas. I was receiving 85%+ on the practice test but got a 62% on the actually written. I would recommend this as a refresher course.

Instrument ating Course
It is too early to give a complete review. I have just begun and it appears to be as advertised. The proof will be in the testing.

Not really very organized
I did the Gleim instrument written and thought it was horrible. At the end I can pass the test but still didn't understand the process for the approaches. This Sporty's Instrument online wasn't much better. I don't think the people making the video actually understand the process needed to figure out all the nuances of the different instruments and how they are depicted in the different plates. They use a lot of acronyms, and slang and jump form instrument to instrument. They never really explain the process in an organized fashion. I rate this above the Gleim product but there is a lot to be desired. I hope that at least listening to this will help me understand the instructor better. It would be easy for this to store on the i

Expected more
I'm into unit 3 of 7 of the course at this point and I'm pretty disappointed. $200 is a lot of pay for little more than some videos and a practice test bank. Technically, the product is a bit buggy: videos frequently don't mark as viewed, I found a couple of mislabeled pages, etc. My biggest complaint by far is that the course is quite poorly organized. There is a Training Course Outline that is supposed to guide you through the process. However, the order of the TCO does not sync up with anything else. You'll frequently find yourself jumping all over the place in the videos and in the Instrument Flying Handbook (the two most common references). When additional reading is recommended (usually in the IFH or AIM) sections or page number are never given - you just need to dig through them and hopefully find a section corresponding to what you're reading about. The TCO's topics do not follow the order of the IFH OR Sporty's own videos in the course. So you basically have three primary resources that are all presenting the information in their own way. The videos come with "matching" questions from the test bank to test your knowledge, which I think is great, but the videos often don't sufficiently cover the information in those questions and you're left to guess. I can't help but wonder if all the time spent explaining exactly how ATC sees my transponder on their radar wouldn't have been better spent on answering those test questions. The videos themselves are fairly solid. Unit 1 is basically PPL review. They can get a bit dull at times, but that's to be expected. The bigger complaint is that they often gloss over or blow through critical sections. Particularly when starting the approach section, I found the videos would throw up a chart, point something out, assume I had mastered it, throw up a new chart, and repeat. Also, be sure to memorize acronyms and their meanings the first time they're given, because they likely won't be repeated or re-explained. Also, the star rating system on this site is extremely misleading; try to write a review yourself and you will see what I mean.
