Performing low altitude strike missions with guided weaponry and the legendary GAU-8 Avenger cannon, it struck heavy blows to enemy convoys. Across its large wings, 14 underbody pylons were attached for up to 16,000 lbs of ordnance, supported by nose mounted targeting systems. Produced between 1974 and 1986, 716 units were manufactured by Republic Aircraft, with more than 280 still in active duty with the USAF past 2020.
