History and Specifications:
Flying for the first time in 1993 and entering service during 1995, MD-90 aircraft were cost-effective and well equipped for the growing landscape. Integrated with engine control software that adjusted available thrust, pilots could tailor their aircraft to outside conditions. Making use of two IAE V2500 engines, maximum thrust could be selected between 25,000 and 28,000lbs per turbine. Optimizing fuel economy with minimal effort, MD-90s were capable of 2,400 miles non-stop range. Flying at more than 500mph and altitudes over 37,000ft, maximum takeoff weight was rated at 156,000lbs. Acquired by American Airlines in August of 1999, aircraft N904RA was previously operated by Reno Air in Nevada. Fitted to carry 12 first-class and 138 coach-class passengers, it was active for American until 2005 with the “hybrid” silver and white paint scheme.
