Collins Aerospace team member begins new career path in aviation
Donald Ezeude didn’t grow up around airplanes or pilots—but after one life-changing flight on the Fourth of July, he quickly gained more than a passing interest in aviation. Now, just weeks into his flight training, Donald has been awarded Sporty’s $2,500 Pilot Training+ Scholarship to help fund his Private Pilot License.
Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Donald explored a variety of career paths during college, including pre-med and computer science, but struggled to find a passion for something. That changed when he accepted a position with Collins Aerospace, working in flight simulation—an opportunity that sparked a deeper curiosity about aviation.
“I kept putting off my discovery flight, always waiting for the right time,” said Ezeude. “But eventually I realized life is too short, and I just had to go for it.”
That moment came on Independence Day 2025, when Donald took his first discovery flight at Piston2Jet Flight School, based at Manassas Regional Airport (KHEF). The experience left him energized and determined. “The smile never left my face,” he said. “It felt natural, challenging, and deeply fulfilling.”
Since then, Donald has committed himself fully to flight training, flying three times per week in both Piper Archers and Warriors. He dreams of one day flying professionally, with the goal of pursuing a career in corporate aviation. He is also the first in his family to pursue aviation, just as he has been the first to chart new paths in other parts of his life.
