First monoplane to enter United States service, the Brewster F2A Buffalo was the successor of the Grumman F3F biplane. Winning the competition against the F4F Wildcat design in 1939, it was put into production, resulting in a total of 509 manufactured. Within a decade, it had begun service with several nations across the globe, including Finland, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Stubby and wide, the F2A was intended to turn tightly and out-maneuver its opponents on the battlefield, quickly using its set of four 0.50 caliber machine guns to shred targets. Unfortunately, this choice would result in instability, emphasized by the fact that it’s airframe was somewhat overweight. The Dutch pilots would eventually decide to cut the fuel capacity in half, allowing them to keep up with the enemy zeroes, while others would reduce the onboard ammo stores. By 1943, many squadrons had relegated the type to training operation, remaining in wait of a suitable American option to replace their Brewsters.

One of the most successful operators to fly the Brewster design, Finland was able to exploit its strengths, resulting in numerous aces being made against the Soviet opposition. Many were able to rack up over 30 credits to their name, including this specific aircraft’s pilot; Hans Wind. Over his lifetime, Hans scored a total of 75 aerial victories, 39 of which at the controls of his B-239E fighter.  Die-Cast version features a high-quality paint scheme, pad printed details, engraved panel lines, and surface detailing. Includes hinged landing gear with support struts and display stand to show the model in flight. Measures 6.5”l with an 8.75” wingspan at 1:48 scale.
