Largest aircraft in the United States Air Force’s fleet, the C-5M Super Galaxy is utilized for personnel transport and cargo missions. Modernized from aging C-5As and C-5Bs, 52 Super Galaxy units have been refitted between 2006 and 2018. Receiving structural and powerplant upgrades for enhanced mission performance, the aircraft currently operates from Dover, Travis, Lackland, and Westover Air Force Bases in the United States.

History and Specifications:
Receiving numerous upgrades over the last decade, the modernized C-5M Super Galaxy features state-of-the-art maintenance diagnostics systems and General Electric F138-100 engines. Reducing fuel consumption by 20% while providing a 22% thrust increase, each unit features powerful reverse-thrust modes. Even with the aircraft’s tremendous 840,000lb weight, less than 5000ft of runway is necessary to stop the Super Galaxy. Crewed by an Aircraft Commander, Pilot, 2 Flight Engineers, and 3 Loadmasters, seven personnel comprise an adequately mission occupied aircraft. Managing up to HCU-6/E “Master Pallets” or 281,000 lbs maximum, the C-5 Galaxy has proven itself to be an instrumental part of any conflict. Featuring a low-visibility grey camouflage with the markings of Westover Air Force Base, this specific C-5M Super Galaxy fulfills duties for the Airlift Wing in Delaware.
