Developed as a single-aisle, 5 seat wide airliner, the MD-88 final continuation of the narrow-body MD-80 platform.
Featuring an EFIS electronic flight instrument panel and cabin refresh, Delta’s refitted aircraft were specially requested for routes across the United States. Introduced during 1987 with these modifications, initial orders were for 30 aircraft from McDonnell Douglas. Adjusted with options for 50 more in the following years, Delta’s 80 new aircraft were in service by December of 1993. Fulfilling duties for almost 3 decades, the final MD-88 was retired in 2020.

History and Specifications:
Initially delivered as MD-82s, Delta Air Lines’ special request MD-88 aircraft were outfitted with several onboard improvements in the following years. Adding an integrated EFIS electronic flight instrument panel and windshear warning system, all 80 aircraft feature Pratt & Whitney JT8D-200 engines. Carrying up to 170 passengers across 2,000 miles nonstop, the type can reach 543mph and 37,000ft of altitude. Painted with the classic 1990s Delta Air Lines colors, this aircraft was registered N925DL and was delivered in 1988 under the MD-88 specification.
