Designed to carry important troops and cargo, the Douglas C-47 was one of the most widely produced and operated utility aircraft across the globe. Entering active service in 1940, the US Army Air Corps relied heavily on their new Skytrains, which could carry up to 28 passengers, 22 full equipped paratroopers, or 6,000 lbs of cargo onboard, making it exceptionally versatile and adored. Crucial to wartime efforts, the C-47 would be manufactured to the tune of 9,300 units, making it one of the most prolific aircraft of the era. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney R-1830 radial engines with 1,200 hp each, it could reach 232 mph and over 1,500 miles of range, with 24,000 ft of service ceiling.
