PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags.
Cut and engraved directly from the original skin of the DC-3 Flagship Tulsa, which is in the process of restoration. This DC-3 was built for the American Airlines Flagship Fleet in 1939, and continued its passenger service for Trans Texas Airways, Air New England, Provincetown-Boston Airlines, and Aero Liberated in Mexico. This aircraft was finally grounded in 1994 and stored in Wisconsin until sold off and donated to Tulsa Air and Space Museum & Planetarium in 2008. A portion of PlaneTags™ proceeds are being shared with the restoration project.
