History and Specifications:
Developed from the Grumman A6 Intruder, the EA-6B Prowler was the first specifically designed tactical electronic warfare aircraft in the United States Military. Intended to suppress enemy radar and communication systems, the Prowler would decode and jam hostile signals, while friendly units made their attack runs. Outfitted with several key upgrades from the A6 Intruder platform, the EA-6B notably features an expanded 4-person cockpit, with one pilot and 3 electronic warfare officers. Though primarily utilized for jamming duties, the Prowler also carries active AGM-88 HARM anti-radar missiles that lock onto hostile radar emissions. Manufactured between 1966 and 1991, 170 EA-6B Prowlers were produced by Grumman and continually upgraded in the following decades.
