Developed jointly by Saab and Fairchild Aviation, the SF-340 was a short-range regional aircraft that first flew in 1983. Featuring a twin-engine turboprop configuration and low wing design, it was intended to minimize operational costs for low passenger flights. Though production ceased in 1999, it is believed that over half of the 459 manufactured are still active in modern day.
With up to 34 passenger capacity and 730-mile range, the SF-340 is truly a small but impressive regional aircraft. Flown by a crew of two, it is powered by a pair of General Electric CT7-9 engines spinning 4-bladed Hamilton standard propellers. Top speed is over 326mph in loaded configuration, with 25,000ft service ceiling and 30,000 lbs maximum take-off weight.
Flown by Eastern Express/Bar Harbor in the 1980s, this SF-340 was used for regional transport in the United States under lease. Accruing more than 35 years of service by 2021, it has remained active, with most recent acquisitor being Icar Air in Bosnia. Die-Cast version has an authentic paint scheme, etched panel lines, pad-printed decals, and pre-installed detailed landing gear. Measures 2”l with a 2” wingspan at 1:400 scale.
