F-117A Nighthawk Dark Knights Die-Cast Model

Appearing no larger than a bird to enemy radar.

Flying in undetected, taking down its enemies, and leaving without a trace, the “invisible” F-117 Nighthawk is one of the most legendary aircraft to ever exist. Still active as of 2025, aircraft 84-0809 was put into service during 1985 and stationed at Holloman AFB. Assigned to the 9th Fighter Squadron, it was deployed in 1999 for Operation Allied Force over Yugoslavia. Retired from primary USAF duties, it was part of the final four-ship formation alongside serials 82-0800, 84-0824, and 88-0843 on April 22nd, 2008. Now stationed at the Tonopah Test Range, it remains infrequently active over Death Valley with the “Dark Knights” squadron.

History and Specifications:

Put into active service during 1983, the initial batch of F-117s were kept out of the public eye, for fear of enemy forces discovering their capabilities. Though appearing extremely swept back in design, the Nighthawk was not actually very fast, staying under the speed of sound to reduce the noise emitted. There were also no afterburners on the craft, with unique exhaust “slits” in the tail that would allow cool air to mix with the hot gasses for decreased thermal signature. Refining the details, the belly of the Nighthawk held even more secrets to its stealthy nature, as the weapons were not stored on outer pylons. Instead, there were doors to cover up two large racks, used exclusively for air-to-ground weapons such as the GBU-27 Paveway III. Undertaking numerous classified missions during the late 20th century, 59 examples would be manufactured, with only 1 ever taken down by enemy fire.
