Recognized as "Felix 100" of the VF-31 Tomcatters squadron.
Commemorating the final flights of the F-14 Tomcat, this aircraft carries the markings of the VF-31 “Tomcatters” squadron and the nickname “Felix 100” from its crew. Decorated with yellow accents and the “Bomb Cat” character on the tail, this beloved fighter flies on in the history books, well known for its accomplishments of the past. Intended for defense of the US Navy’s carrier fleet, the F-14 Tomcat was high endurance, adaptable, and capable fighter for air superiority above enemy waters. Featuring revolutionary “Fox 3” active-radar missiles, variable sweep wings, and advanced flight controls, the aircraft could automatically tailor its flight envelope. Designed with speed in mind, the variable sweep wings permitted high speeds and high maneuverability in one single package. Though complex and tremendously heavy, continuous improvements would lead to the subsequent F-14B and D models with higher payload capacity and targeting pods. Though transformed into the pseudo “multirole interceptor” configuration, the Tomcat would remain the primary carrier defense fighter of the United States.
