Touching down at Eglin Air Force Base on December 20th, 2023, aircraft AF20-003 is just the third prototype of Boeing’s F-15EX program. Known as EX3, 20-003 is officially assigned to the 96th Test Wing for development and performance tests. First example built to the full-production specification, EX3 was delivered alongside the 53rd Test Wing’s EX4 unit.

History and Specifications:
Enhancing operational capabilities of the F-15 Eagle platform, Boeing’s F-15EX program was officially approved in early-2024, with the first unit delivered later that year on June 5th. Boasting more than double the weapons capacity of F-15C units, EX aircraft carry more payload than any other fighter in the world. Integrating advanced electronic warfare components, APG-82 Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar unit, and dual-seat cockpit for increase awareness, the F-15EX can be tailored to numerous combat situations. As of 2025, 9 units have been produced, 3 of these being combat ready aircraft while the other 6 were test examples. Faced with 129 orders from the United States, Boeing plans to manufacture 24 units per year by 2026, forecasting that their final F-15EX delivery will occur in 2031.
