Entering service as a lightweight, subsonic, single-seat fighter jet for use by the USAF, the Northrop F-5E Tiger II was an advancement of its predecessor F-5A type. Featuring uprated engines, leading edge root extensions, and advanced weaponry, it superseded the earlier “Freedom Fighter” in almost every regard. A total of 1,399 of the Tiger II variants have since seen the skies, finding their homes in several nations across the globe.
Characterized by its small footprint and agile maneuvering, the small twin-engine fighter is able to carry out both air defense and strike missions off of even the smallest runways. It was also known to be very reliable, assisted by the bulletproof nature of it’s General Electric J85 powerplants. Even the uprated engines introduced on the Tiger II maintained this attribute, while increasing the energy management with the higher maximum thrust. For ordinance, the jet had up to 4 underwing pylons, central fuel tank, and pair of wingtip launchers for air-to-air missiles. Additionally, the pair of M39A1 20mm Cannons with 280 rounds of each are placed in the nose, necessary for close in combat.
Representing the “Patrouille Suisse” aerobatic demonstration team and their 60th Anniversary, this vibrant red and white aircraft represents the Swiss heritage. Putting on a display for crowds across the globe in tight formation, they are also among the last to ever fly the F-5E Tiger II. Die-Cast version has an accurate paint scheme, etched panel lines, pad printed decals, and surface antennas. Includes retracted or deployed landing gear, optional weaponry that can be attached to the underside, and display stand to show the model in flight. Also comes with waterslide decals for aircraft 1-9 of the demonstration team. Measures 7.75”l with a 4.5” wingspan at 1:72 scale.
