Lightweight and agile, the supersonic F-5E Tiger II was an evolutionary leap toward smaller combat fighter aircraft. Characterized by its small footprint and agile maneuvering, the twin-engine fighter is capable of both air defense and strike missions from even the shortest runways. Hailed for excellent reliability and reasonable cost of operation, it would soon become the aircraft of choice for US Navy training schools. Across these F-5N and F-5F models, more than 1,400 have been manufactured by Northrop since the 1970s for use around the world.

History and Specifications:
Entering service as a lightweight, subsonic, single-seat fighter jet for use by the USAF, the Northrop F-5E Tiger II was an advancement of its predecessor F-5A type. Featuring uprated engines, leading edge root extensions, and advanced weaponry, it superseded the earlier “Freedom Fighter” in almost every regard. Decked out with 4 underwing pylons, central fuel tank, and pair of wingtip launchers, it could deploy both air-to-ground and air-to-air ordnance. Additionally, two M39A1 20mm Cannons with 280 rounds of each are placed in the nose for close in combat. Assigned to the VMFT-401 “Snipers” for use as an adversary aircraft, the F-5N provides an agile target in mock combat. Stationed from Marine Corps Air Station Yuma in Arizona, it features a stunning digital camouflage across the exterior.
