Introduced as the first all-weather fighter for the United States, the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet is one of the longest lasting and capable aircraft across the globe. Protecting dozens of nations from enemy air or ground forces with advanced weaponry and sensor equipment, the formidable Hornet pulls up to 7.5Gs in a dogfight. Capable of runway or carrier operation, the F/A-18 is prepared for any needs, whether they be strike forces, air superiority, or combined engagements. Featuring the vibrant VFMA-112 “Cowboys” livery of the Dallas Cowboys, this Texas based squadron has operated the Hornet since 1988, replacing its aging F-4 Phantoms from decades prior. Last deployed in late 2009 to Iraq, these fighters provided aerial support of the ground forces and allowed the withdrawal from the region to be successful.

Aircraft Specifications
Weapons include the formidable AIM-9 Sidewinder and AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles for air-to-air engagements, with air-to-ground weapons consisting of dumb bombs or rockets, guided missiles like HARM anti-radiation missiles, AGM-65 Maverick anti-tank guided missiles, and AGM-84 Harpoon missiles for anti-ship duties. This variety of weaponry is the reason why so many nations have selected the F-18 for their duties, permitting almost any mission to be operated by the type. Supporting this offensive weaponry is the single M61A Vulcan gatling-gun mounted in the nose, with 412 rounds of 20mm ammunition. The airframe itself measures out to 56ft long with a 40ft wingspan, featuring a minimal-sweep design and extended wing roots. Across the underside is a total of 9 weapons hardpoints, with a max combined load of nearly 14,000 lbs. Powering the aircraft is a pair of General Electric F404-GE-402 Turbofans, which generate 17,750 lbs of thrust each on full afterburner, or 11,000 with the afterburner off. Maximum combat range is around 500 miles with a standard pair of 480-gallon fuel tanks and ferry range is 1800 nautical miles for transport. The maneuvering limit for the Hornet is 7.5Gs at any speed, but this can be overridden in emergencies, at risk of damaging the airframe.
