History and Specifications:
Designed by renowned German engineer Kurt Tank, the Focke Wulf FW-200 Condor was commandeered by the Luftwaffe for use on tactical reconnaissance and strike missions. Featuring a pressurized cabin for flights up to 20,000 ft in altitude, it was initially powered by four Pratt & Whitney Hornet radial engines, which allowed speeds up to 240 mph. Flying low above the waters on combat missions, it struck heavy blows to allied ships, dropping three bombs in quick succession. Dubbed “The Scourge of the Atlantic” by Winston Churchill, FW-200 aircraft were eventually fended off by carrier-borne Hawker Hurricane fighters.
