Recognized from its shrieking “Jericho Trumpet” in battle, this Junkers Ju-87 Stuka was one of the most fearsome German aircraft in WWII. Painted with multicolor green camouflage, this specific “armor-hunter” aircraft fought over Ukraine in 1944 with Schlachtgeschwader One. Produced from 1936 until 1944 in several editions, it was one of more than 6,000 built for the Luftwaffe. History and Specifications:
Introduced in the late 1930s by Junkers, the Ju-87 Stuka was designed for precision strikes on enemy units. Constructed from metal with stressed external coverings, the cranked wing aircraft was ruggedly made for combat environments. Though bulky and cumbersome, it would prove highly effective against enemy forces, carrying massive 500kg (1000lb.) bombs in underwing cradles. Working to reduce its shortcomings, the Jumo 210 inverted-V12 engine was replaced with the 211D and 211J editions, which more than doubled the output to 1,400hp. Further enhancing their effectiveness, late model Ju-87G aircraft were even fitted with underwing gun-pods instead of bombs. Providing good success, the bulky aircraft was now incredibly accurate and powerful against Soviet forces.
