MA-1 Hooded Bomber Jacket

The MA-1 bomber jacket was developed in the 1950s to better accommodate pilots in the new type of aircraft—jets. These new aircraft flew faster than their predecessors, at higher altitudes. The previously popular leather jackets became cumbersome in the improved technical flight decks of jet aircraft. The MA-1, with its sleek, lightweight, and waterproof design, became the uniform of jet jockeys. Although designed for colder environments, the MA-1 remains comfortable in warmer weather if left open. This latest version incorporates a hood with drawstring, plus a knitted waistband and cuffs to provide added comfort while sealing off cold air. Includes two welt-type slash pockets with snap fasteners, combination pencil/cigarette pocket with zipper on sleeve, and a wind/water-repellent exterior. High-waist design provides comfort while sitting. Outer shell is 100% nylon, inner lining is 100% polyester, hood is 75% cotton and 25% polyester.
