Developed in response to the forthcoming F-15 Eagle and F-16 Fighting Falcon, the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 Fulcrum is a twin-engine, single-seat multirole fighter. Designated a “Tactical Fighter” by the Soviet forces, it saw first flight by 1977, but with much less advanced equipment than its western counterparts. Without sufficient experience in fly-by-wire and composite materials, the Fulcrum was much more antiquated than rival designs. Following consistent development and advancements in technology, modern day MiG-29s now boast fly-by-wire control systems and composite materials in the airframe.
Powered by a pair of the Klimov RD-33 turbofan engines, the MiG-29 boasts an impressive 1:1 thrust to weight ratio in combat spec, rivaling the American F-16 and F-15. With similar maneuverability at high speed and an electronic helmet mounted display (HMD) that was installed in 1985, Fulcrum pilots could simply look at their targets and fire. Deploying from 6 underwing pylons with up to 8,000 lbs of capacity, pilots also had access to an integrated 30mm GSH-30-1 autocannon with 150 rounds of ammo. Benefiting from consistent developments, guided weapons can be utilized alongside standard-issue R73 and R77 air-to-air missiles.
Currently in active service as one of the Ukrainian Air Force’s multirole aircraft, the MiG-29 flies alongside the Su-25 Frogfoot ground-attacker and Su-27 Flanker air-superiority fighter. Featuring the iconic UAF “Digital” splinter camouflage, each one is highly recognizable and often fitted with NATO equipment such as the AGM-88 HARM anti-radar missile and JDAM glide bombs. Die-Cast version features a high-quality paint scheme, pad printed decals, engraved panel lines, and surface detailing. Includes optional landing gear and display stand to show the model in flight, with a full set of weaponry. Measures 9.5”l with a 6.25” wingspan at 1:72 scale.
