History and Specifications:
Developed as the replacement for the Anglo-French Variable Geometry project of 1965, the Mirage 2000 is a fourth-generation multirole fighter. Larger, Mach 2 capable successor to its delta-winged siblings, the Mirage 2000C built upon the favorable attributes of its predecessors. Designed for both air and surface threats, the Mirage 2000 carries long-range active-radar MICA air-to-air missiles in conjunction with the heat-seeking Magic II, or various air-to-ground guided ordnance at the same time. Across nine pylons, anti-tank guided missiles, guided bombs, and anti-ship missiles are utilized for these multirole strike missions. Beginning production in 1980 with widespread export to Greece, India, and the UAE, more than 600 were completed within the next three decades.
