The North American P-51D Mustang is well known as the best fighter aircraft of late WWII, with 15,000 produced in its lifespan. It fought against even the most prestigious and deadly fighters that Germany could send their way, including the jet-powered ME-262 which was intended to take down the American B-17s. Besides proving its worth in battle, the type was famously piloted by the Tuskegee Airmen, who were the first African-American aviators in the USAAF to fight during World War II. This specific example includes the “Red Tail” camouflage and “Bunny” pin-up nose art, flown by Lieutenant Colonel Bob Friend on numerous missions in Europe during World War II. Honoring their legacy, it has been restored for permanent display at the Palm Springs Air Museum in California. Die-Cast version features an authentic livery, etched panel lines, printed decals, and a display stand to show the aircraft in flight. Measures 4”l with a 4.5” wingspan at 1:100 scale.
