Peel and Stick Bugs
These reminder bugs, available exclusively from Sporty's, are the best insurance against error for any pilot. A quick and accurate visual reference helps maintain critical air speed or altitude. Fast and simple to install–just peel off the paper backing and press it inside the bezel. Indicators consist of a thin track that installs inside the bezel.

Altitude Bugs
Altitude Alert Indicator marks critical altitude levels so they can be maintained by quick visual reference. In the track are three tabs that move simultaneously: green tab points to 500' above DH or MDA, yellow tab points from 200' to 100' above minimums and red tab is placed at DH or MDA. An added safety margin for approaches, it will also help sharpen your skills. Altitude Alert Indicator 2 7/8" dia.

Some helpful hints and instructions on how to use it
Remember the Green/Yellow and Red bugs/tabs are used for 100's of feet not 1000 feet
On take Off:
1) Place the red flag at the airport altitude. On VFR departures make your turn out 300 feet below the red flag (if standard pattern altitude is 1000 AGL). On IFR departures make your turn out 100 feet below the green flag (400 AGL) unless it is a non standard departure procedure.
2). If you have not flown past the red flag (1000 AGL) on takeoff, land straight ahead if engine fails, do not turn back towards the airport.

En route:
1) Use the green flag/tab as an altitude "bug" for ATC assigned altitudes or VFR plan cruise altitudes.

Approach:
1) Use the green flag/tab for approach chart altitudes as a reminder
2) Just before the FAF put the Red flag/tab on the MDA or DA altitude.
3) When you hit the Yellow tab start adding power for MDA level out or be prepared to "go miss" on the DA.
4) When you hit the Red flag "level out" at MDA or go miss on the DA
5) If going missed at the red flag and gaining altitude, once you hit the yellow flag, it is a good reminder to put the gear "up" (positive altitude)

For VFR pattern work:
Put the Red flag at the airport elevation.
that will end up being the standard pattern altitude of 1000 AGL
when you pass the green flag, you will be 500 feet above the ground. This is a good time to check the gear is down (green light = green flag) and make the call that you are on short finial.

I could be happier
It was a little to big. The other size was too small. I put 3 dabs of epoxy to hold it in place. There was a scratch on the red pointer. It is also a little loose which allows it to move with vibration. The concept is great. I am happy...but could be happier.

Altitude Alert Indicator
I've used this item for years, but bought a new plane that didn't have one. Measured with calipers to get the correct size. Fit with no problems. I use it to mark my assigned altitude and approach minimums. Don't want to bust an altitude.

Works as advertised - careful of the size
I initially ordered the larger one after measuring. However, I apparently didn't get the caliper directly on the glass. My plane as Nu-Lites installed, and they make the opening just a bit smaller, so that the 2 7/8 one is a bit too big, and the 2 3/4 is a bit too small. I used the 2 3/4 one since it didn't obscure any of the altimeter markings, even though it was about 1/16 to small.

Pros: A simple and effective product Cons: Quality control is dubious. Bought one a few years back and it wouldn't slide in the ring. Also the glue is weak. Hope this one works out. THE PRICE IS OUTRAGEOUS ! ! ! It's worth maybe $20.00

Pros: Good clearly marked bugs, easy to set. Cons: Rotates too freely allowing airframe vibration to move bugs. In 10 minutes flight, bugs settle to bottom of indicator. Slipping altitude bugs could be a potential safety risk. Would be a great product if a little more internal friction was designed into the ring to prevent slippage.

Pros: Very easy to install. A great reminder of target altitudes when busy. Have only used for a short time, not able to remark on durability. Ingenious adhesive made it easy to put in place.

can you set each pointer individually, or are they always the same distance apart. i.e... is the yellow always 100ft above the red?
Brian on Mar 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The green, red and yellow pointers are fixed to the wheel and cannot move independently. Therefore, if you move one, all move equally. I like this feature because flying IFR the calls I make are 500 and 100 above the DA.
Anyone know what size to get for a United Altimeter?
A shopper on May 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: To determine the correct size measure the inside of the bezel.
What holds it in and how it operated?
Marc B on Jan 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The indicator is held in place with a 3m tape. The green, red and yellow colors move to be set as desired.
