The one time I have had a chance to use this head set I was flying with someone that had a Light Speed head set and in my opinion my ASA HS-1A sounded better. It is comfortable too. The one thing I found odd was the HS-1A has a stereo/ mono switch and when it was in mono I could only hear in one ear. In stereo both ears sounded great and the separate volumes worked fine. I'm not sure if this is normal or not. Any way I am very happy with my purchase.May 26, 2019Purchased

This headset has been great! Very comfortable, easy to use, audio is very clear and the volume knobs adjust very easily. The mike boom is easy to move and it stays where you put it. I only have about ten hours in a Cessna 172 but I think this headset does a great job of muffling the noise. Very happy with this purchase!April 27, 2019Purchased

I had been borrowing an old set of David Clark's from a friend. These actually sounded better and super clear! I could hear the AWOS much better than on my buddy's used DC's. They don't come with any case which is sort of a hassle because now I have to order one of those.April 2, 2019Purchased

You get what you pay for. These work great but after 90 minutes they become increasingly uncomfortable. Good for initial training. I upgraded but stilllkeep these as a backup.March 28, 2019Purchased

4 months agoDurability3 / 5Reliability3 / 5Performance1 / 5Ease Of Use3 / 5Value4 / 5Would You Recommend?NoASA HS-1A vs. Faro Stealth PassiveNote: my durability / reliability / etc. ratings were based on my prior use of this (or similar ASA version) headset years ago as I did not use the HS-1A that I recently bought from Sporty’s… I immediately returned it after trying on the Faro headset. I flew both professionally and for recreation. I got back into recreational flying after many years of not flying. I was not sure what headset I wanted, so I ordered both the ASA AirClassics HS-1A and a Faro Stealth Passive headset. The ASA headset was as uncomfortable as I remember from yeas ago. I have a big head (don’t all pilots!), and I remember that the small ASA ear cups would crush my ears over time and become very uncomfortable. Out of the box, the Faro headset fit well and did not crush my ears. The Faro headset also has much less clamping pressure on the head. I sent back my ASA headset to Sporty’s and bought two more Faro headsets (I own three Faro total now). For a primary headset, if you don’t want to buy a noise cancelling, go for the Faro Stealth Passive headset. Saving $90 by buying the ASA headset is not worth it for your primary headset. If you rarely carry passengers, you might be able to justify saving a few bucks on a backup headset by getting the ASA headset. If you have a small or average size head, the ASA headset may work okay for you. I have not regretted spending the extra money on Faro Passive headsets for me and my passengers. For reference, my current flying has me wearing the headset for about 1.5 hours for local flights. I have not worn the Faro on a long cross-country flight but think that it would be much more comfortable than the ASA headset. Good luck and happy flying!March 26, 2019
