However, on my pre-annual inspection test flight, it started alarming. At first I was confused at the unrecognized alarm, but figured it out upon rollout. I borrowed a more sophisticated, recently calibrated, multi-gas monitor and retested the atmosphere in the pattern, and it corroborated the Toscsin, at which point I began the grounded the airplane and started the annual. As it turned out, I had picked up a pretty bad exhaust gasket leak. The Tocsin CO detector is well worth the money!May 24, 2020Purchased

Recently, during a flight review where we slowed to mca, just enough engine exhaust was able to find its way through the vents to activate the alarm. I felt the vibration, as I had it attached to my shoulder harness, and the aural alarm was loud enough to be heard through my ANR headset. Once we accelerated, the air cleared, the alarm ceased, and the ppm went to zero. I wouldn't think of flying without it.March 13, 2020Durability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use2 / 5Value4 / 5Would You Recommend?YesReplacing the battery is not simple.I left the monitor on after dropping the plane off for an avionics install. It was dead after the 2 months; not knowing how early in that timeframe it actually ran out of juice.
The battery is not simple to change. It takes a less common CR-2 battery. You need to unscrew 6 tiny screws to get access to the battery. I would have expected a slide/snap on battery cover and possibly a pair of AAA or AA batteries.
That said the device works great. It was able to detect CO and set off the alarm while being near our gas stove while cooking. Not gonna fly without it.March 2, 2020See aboveVery complex set-up process. Cannot be done without calling the manufacturerFebruary 1, 2020Purchased

The constructors of the device is very nice. Feels really solid, and has a nice rubber textured finish to it. The belt clip is mechanical, not spring powered and is very sturdy. I tested it in my Seabee on my south wind heater and had a zero reading which is great, then put it at the exhaust side of the heater to see how it worked and it was great. Watched the numbers climb then heard the alarm, felt the vibration, and saw the flashing lights. Very happy with my purchase!Added Jan 14, 2020January 14, 2020Purchased

You'll need this doc for number of reasons, particularly for the re-calibration discussion. For battery replacement, following is an excerpt:
1. Remove the five machine screws located on the rear cover of the device.
2. Separate the rear cover from the front cover by gently pulling them away from
3. Using your thumb and forefinger, pull the battery out of the terminal board.
4. Slide a new battery into the terminal board.

6. Place the front and rear covers together, then replace the five machine screws.
