Dip away
I have 96 gal tanks, a bit of math is needed for the inch marks, my tank is 12 inches deep, so I count 6 inches as half full. Works well so far.

C-182 Fuel Gauge -LR Fuel Bladders
I believe our long range bladders have 79 gallons usable...or 39.5 gallons per side. The gauge stops at 39 gallons, maybe not a big deal. The larger issue: the fuel leaks out of the gauge quickly, making it difficult to get an accurate reading. The instructions are very simple. I guess I am doing something wrong. Having said that, a flying club on the field has the same gauge, and the same problem !!! Thoughts?

Needs another feature
Purchased this for use on rental acft. Measurements appear not far off from another dip stick in use (which depends upon wetting external surface that I find difficult to read). Owner had discontinued using this type because pilots kept dropping them in; had to be fished out of fuel tanks. Tube needs permanent attachment point for safety lanyard. I have epoxied one on, will see how that works.

Want to know how much is in the tanks?
We have a 1972 182P with long range tanks and bladders. This fuel stick matches what the meter on the pump shows every time. Don't worry that the photo shows 172, the one we received is actually for the long range 182.

Pros: Simple to use. Seems to be accurate. Eliminates much of the guess work when trying to operate near gross weight. Cons: I have big hands and wish the tuibe was a couple of inches longer, easier to hold on to while sticking it into the fuel tank. If you fly older planes like I do it takes a lot of the guess work out of determining the actual fuel in the tanks when operating with less than full tanks. I often wondered about the accuracy of the old panel mounted fuel level gages, now I really know with a much higher degree of accuracy and confidence.

Pros: Simple Cons: I should have read the description better. My 182 has long range tanks that are 46 gallons each. Be careful when ordering is the word.

Can I use this for a Cutlass 172RG? The dipstick for the normal 172 is too small for my tank. Thanks!
A shopper on Jan 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Depending on the dept of the tank I would recommend item 6109A, it is a 16" or item 5304A, it is a 11" gauge. Both gauges include directions on how to calibrate for your specific aircraft.
the pictured gauge says c172 on it title says 182 long range tank?
A shopper on Jan 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: That photo is a representative one - but this product number (4956) is the 182 long range.
