10 reasons pilots prefer Sporty's courses:

1. Four formats, one price

We know you’re busy, so our course is available almost anywhere. Use our online learning platform for complete access to videos and quizzes anywhere you have an internet connection. There’s no software to install – just log in and start learning. Or use our dedicated mobile apps for iPad, iPhone, Android, and Apple TV, which allow you to download videos for offline viewing. Progress automatically syncs between all formats so you can start a study session on your phone and finish on your laptop without missing a beat.

Completion certificate2. Get your written test endorsement

When you complete the course, we’ll  give you the flight instructor endorsement to take the written test—instantly! You can take this endorsement to the FAA testing center, and log it in your ForeFlight logbook. It's complete preparation for the FAA Knowledge Test.

3. Pass all your tests—guaranteed!

Our course is so complete we guarantee you’ll pass all three tests: the written, oral and flight. Our video segments make complicated subjects like aerodynamics and weather easy to understand, so you’ll impress the examiner. Plus, our Airman Certification Standards Study Guide cross-references every required task to the videos, making it easy to review for the checkride.

HD Maneuvers4. Dynamic in-flight video

Sporty’s courses are famous for their HD video and 3D animations. Not a boring ground school, we put you in the cockpit for a real world look at what flying is all about. You’ll see low instrument approaches from the left seat, and you’ll hear real world communications with air traffic control. Plus, each video segment includes helpful review notes for efficient studying, and many also have review quizzes to reinforce key concepts.

5. 27 fully-narrated hd maneuvers

In addition to the comprehensive video segments, Sporty’s Instrument Rating course also includes a detailed maneuvers guide. All 27 maneuvers you might be tested on are included, with a 3D animation of the maneuver, narrated procedures, common errors, and completion standards. It’s a great way to review for the checkride.

Test Prep Tools6. Powerful test prep tools

You’ll ace the written test with our interactive tools. Create customized study sessions from the actual FAA test questions and see the right and wrong answers, plus plain English explanations written by our team of CFIs. Detailed analytics show you which areas need the most help, and allow you to study only the questions you’ve missed. Then, take a practice test that simulates the real knowledge exam you'll have to pass.

7. Flight instructor tracking

We make it easy for your instructor to follow your progress through the course, so you always stay in sync with your in-person lessons. Invite a CFI to see your practice test scores and review your video progress.

8. Ask a CFI

If you're stumped by a difficult subject, talk to the experienced flight instructors at Sporty's. We have a team of over 25 CFIs on staff at our flight school, training students every day just like you, so they can offer quick, helpful answers. Just click the Ask a CFI button to send a message.

9. Complete training syllabus

Research shows that pilots learn better when they use a high quality syllabus. We include a complete Training Course Outline as part of our course – the same one we use in our flight school. It includes detailed outlines for both ground and flight lessons. Think of it as a bridge between your at-home study and flight training.

10. Airman Certification Standards

Our Learn to Fly Course includes the full text of the FAA’s Airman Certification Standards (ACS) - your guide to the checkride - and cross-references each task to the video segments. Our course also emphasizes deep understanding instead of just memorizing questions, something the FAA now discourages.

More Powerful Features:

  • Download videos for offline viewing in the app or stream them with an internet connection.
  • Automatic progress sync between all formats.
  • Air Facts segments go beyond the textbook to make you a proficient pilot.
  • Review notes and quick quizzes after most videos help you review your progress.
  • Closed captioned videos help students whose first language is not English.
  • Connect to your ForeFlight logbook to log your written test endorsement.
  • Earn FAA WINGS credit and save on your insurance.
  • Automatic updates mean you learn the latest information.

Another great product from Sporty's
I used Sporty's learn to fly course to help me get my private pilot certificate. It definitely save me both time and money at the airstrip and allowed me to be prepared when I showed up for lessons. The same hold's true for this course. The information is presented in a logical order that builds upon the previous lesson. Being able to download videos to review while away from an internet connection is extremely helpful. I really enjoy having the maneuvers section available for me to use when I fly with my safety pilot which is helping me build more confidence for my checkride! I look forward to my next Sporty's course after I obtain my instrument rating... seaplane... multiengine... I'm not sure but what I am sure of is that Sporty's course will not disappoint!

Abbreviations , and study on missed question
If you would highlight abbreviations , so you can see what they mean , it would help out a lot . you are reading and an abbreviation comes along , you don't know what it means , so what you are reading is useless because you do not know how to apply it , it would help out a lot if there was a link to show what abbreviations mean without leaving where you are at and search for this information , **** also when you miss a question and you go to study on it , there is a link to go study below the question , but the link does not take you to where you need to go , if you miss a question and you go to study it at the link , it should take you directly to what the question was about , it would save you a lot of time , instead of looking through tons of stuff , looking for what you are trying to find !!!!
****** overall great study guide ********

Very Watchable and Informative
I've watched all the videos and started the quizzes for the test prep. The online and app format is perfect for squeezing in some studying here and there. Rob Reider does a very good job of hosting and I enjoy listening to how he speaks. Facts are presented rapid-fire for sure. Dangers are laid out in plain language. The series feels fresh and the methods taught and avionics referenced are current. Maybe it shouldn't matter to me, but the fact that the videos don't look like something Marty brought with him in the DeLorean from 1985 makes the experience more enjoyable. Things are organized well and it's easy to re-watch a specific video lesson for help on test questions or that will be pertinent for a specific upcoming flight lesson.

The test prep format is also great for taking with you in app format--answer a few while waiting for your coffee, etc. You can also concentrate the questions on a specific topic or set of topics.

Overall, really great. I've been watching at home, listening in the car, and answering test questions instead of checking Instagram.

And, years from now I will definitely log in to review prior to proficiency checks and IFR flights.

Passed FAA written using only this course
Videos are all facts and very little theory. If memorization is your learning style, these should work well for you. Question database very extensive and I actually had two exact questions on my FAA test. Unkown if I've learned enough for the oral.

Not a good learning tool for me
In my opinion, this course just sounds like they are reading straight out of a book and never pausing to really teach you. This is not teaching, it is just a book on tape. The narration puts me to sleep. I did my VFR with the king series videos and that was valuable to me. I decided to give this series a try because it was considerably less expensive than the competitive program. I guess you get what you pay for.

Good Investment
Easy to follow and well structured. Not as technical as some might want but very clear explanations of complex details. I haven't taken the quizzes or the FAA exams yet. I used their similar PPL course many years back and had good results.

Is this course the same as the airspace section in the Learn To Fly Course or is this different material and therefore actually an "add-on" to the LTF course? If it IS part of the LTF course, could you guys also state on the pages of your other course offerings if they are add-on's or are also part of a bigger package? Thanks!
