The only way I could get some activity was to use a external antenna. I had one frequency that it locked onto and required me to set the squelch to high for other calls. A way to lock out stations would be a plus for the scanner. I also had a small HT receiver along side it with a rubber ducky antenna and it was hearing all kinds of stations. The conclusion is yours. A big plus thro, is I got a refund in flash. Great service.August 15, 2018Purchased
2 weeks agoDurability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use4 / 5Value5 / 5Would You Recommend?YesGreat value, operates well, delivered right on timeFM and AM Radio worked fine but aircraft reception was weak until I connected the 8 foot extension coax cable (has quarter-turn connectors, cost $16.00, I believe) in between the antenna. I taped the detachable antenna vertically to a wood outside window frame that faces the airport. (we live in a treed area about 7 direct miles from the major airport). Don't buy it without the extension cable unless you are quite close to the airport. Instruction booklet was helpful in identifying the radio controls and operation but the step-by-step procedure left some gaps for inserting the interrupting aircraft frequencies. Finally figured it out by playing with the buttons. Setting the volume higher than normal helps with intelligibility of aircraft transmissions. Note: When typing in aircraft frequencies, you must fill all frequency decimal digits even when they are 'zeros' or it won't load. Some pilot's 'speaking' is clearer than others; also some aircraft radios seem better than others.
Comes with wall power adapter that outputs 9 - 12 volt power to the radio.August 1, 2018Purchased
1 month agoWould You Recommend?YesVery nice and practical unit; unfortunately, due to our location , we require an external antenna and the local association prohibits installation. Returned and received full credit.July 22, 2018Purchased

I live on downwind from my hometown airport and got zero reception. I sent it back and got a full refund.June 12, 2018Durability3 / 5Reliability3 / 5Performance3 / 5Ease Of Use3 / 5Value3 / 5Would You Recommend?YesThe radio seems to work OK. It was a major hassle trying to figure out what size outdoor speaker to use. Where to get a 3.5mm connector for the speaker wire. What size speaker wire to use. BNC connector and what size wire (RG 58) to use for an external antenna. If you just use it on your desk, it works OK.June 7, 2018Purchased

I then pluged it in and tried to pick up air bands, and did not receive much of anything. ATIS from DuPage county airport, about 15 miles away, nothing. I am right over O'Hare Airports runways 9R & 9L, nothing but static. :(May 24, 2018Purchased
3 months agoDurability4 / 5Reliability4 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5Would You Recommend?YesNice radio to keep an ear on the airport.I purchased this for my basement home office 9 miles away from the FNL airport. I knew I'd need an external antenna for the radio with it in the basement. Had a 75' cable made to reach from the peak of my roof to the basement. If you do that, make sure you get an in-line lighting arrestor and properly ground it (to the ground) before the cable enters the house. Spent way more on the external antenna, cable, arrestor, and all the time to get it installed than I did on the radio itself but I really enjoy having it in the office and can listen to all the airport radio calls while I work. Using the "Interrupt" feature allows ability to have multiple frequencies preset and listen to to one and it will interrupt if there is other radio traffic. Haven't BT'd it to my phone because I have a much better stereo system in my office but can see where it could be a ok external speaker in the hanger. Pretty cool device.May 24, 2018
