Introduced as the primary aircraft of the USAF Thunderbirds in 1974, the T-38 Talon displaced the previous F-4E Phantom II with stable handling and cost-effective operation. Chris Patterakis, who took command of the team during 1975. Carrying the distinction of lead aircraft during their Bicentennial in 1976, Patterakis retired from service in 1977 with 5,100 flight hours across many unique aircraft.
