United Airlines 767-200ER Battleship Gray Die-Cast Model

This 767-200ER was the 13th production example. 

Delivered to United Airlines in 1982, this Boeing 767-200 was the 13th production example. Initially painted in the airline’s “Saul Bass” scheme and later decorated in United “Battleship Gray” colors, it was registered N609UA. Notable for two in-flight failures, this aircraft suffered an uncommon dual-engine flameout on descent to Denver in 1983, then again in 1986 just moments after departure from San Francisco. Fortunately for all, neither incident resulted in an accident, as the pilots managed to restart both engines at a lower altitude. Retired from United Airlines service in 2003 following reconfiguration to 767-200ER specification, N609UA was sold to Vision Airlines and continued to operate until 2017 when it was scrapped.

History and Specifications:
Introduced in the 1980s as an update to their 767-200, Boeing’s 767-200ER had nearly twice the range of its earlier counterpart. Designed to carry 181 passengers in three-class configuration, it could fly at speeds up to 565 mph for 7,600 miles. Expanding transatlantic flight routes, the 767-200ER could travel from New York to Dehli, London to Singapore, or Beijing to Sydney without having to refuel. Though first deliveries began in 1984, both Pratt & Whitney PW4000 and General Electric CF6 engines were not immediately available as an option for 767-200ER customers. Once they were, the 767-200ER’s efficiency greatly increased. Manufactured in Everett, Washington, Boeing produced just 121 examples with no orders left unfulfilled.
