Delivered in February of 1956, C-131F Samaritan 141017 was built in R4Y-1 specification. Carrying up to 44 staff onboard, it fulfilled the not so glamorous yet vital task of VIP transport. Bringing passengers to and from airbases, though not aircraft carriers, 141017 was active for more than 30 years. Removed from service in 1986 and sold as surplus in 1996, the aircraft is currently on display at the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson, AZ.

History and Specifications:
Built on the Convair CV-340 airframe, the C-131 Samaritan was introduced in 1955 to US Navy service. Designated R4Y-2, the aircraft was utilized for VIP staff transport, with up to 44 seats and 4 crew members. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engines, the aircraft had a range of 1,600 miles, at speeds up to 293 mph. Manufactured between 1955 and 1957 from CV-330 and CV-440 specifications, 38 total C-131F aircraft were built.
