History and Specifications:Entering service in 1993 with the USAF and ANG, Boeing’s C-17 Globemaster III is one of the primary strategic airlifters in the nation. Carrying up to 102 troops or 170,900 lbs of cargo across a typical range of 6,200 miles, it boasts a wide performance envelope. Operating from runways as short as 3,500ft, C-17s can takeoff in breathtaking distances and stop quickly with the use of four Pratt & Whitney F-117 engines. Producing 160,000 lbs. of thrust at standstill, the aircraft can reach 517 mph, altitudes over 45,000 ft, and all-up weights beyond 575,000 lbs.
