Vought F4U Corsair Die-Cast Models

One of the most powerful propeller aircraft of WWII, the Vought F4U Corsair was not only unique, but it was iconic across each and every surface. Known for its striking "gull-wing" design and massive stature, it had impressive performance and weapons capability that resulted in great success during the 1940s. Though suffering a troubled introduction to carrier duties, with difficult handling characteristics, it would shift to land based operation for the early years. Equipped with six 0.50 caliber machine guns across both wings, the early Corsair had excellent firepower to take on the fragile Zero opponents. Reaching up to 400mph with high climb rate, American pilots fully dictated each engagement, with pilots such as “Pappy” Boyington receiving credit for 28 aerial victories in just a few short months. The Corsair was also extremely successful in ground-attack configuration, with pilot Charles Lindbergh demonstrating the amazing underwing capacity of 4,000 lbs across 3 individual pylons. By September of 1945, there were over 2,100 enemy aircraft destroyed across 64,000 sorties, with more than 11,000 produced and delivered to the US Navy, Royal Navy, and Royal New Zealand Air Force.

Aircraft Featured:

Piloted by Cpt. Tommy Blackburn, F4U-1D "Big Hog" was assigned to the VF-17 squadron. Credited with 11 aerial victories, Blackburn was renowned for his leadership efforts and placed in charge of VF-17 on January 1st, 1943. 

Piloted by 1st Lt. Phillip DeLong, this F4U-1D was assigned to the VMF-224 squadron. Credited with 11 aerial victories during WWII and two more during the Korean war, DeLong recieved the Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star, and Legion of Merit during his lifetime. 

Piloted by Cpt James J. Kraus, F4U-4 "Alice Special" was assigned to the VMA-312 squadron. Recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, Kraus was honored for his duties in WWII.

Assigned to VMF-323, F4U-4 "Death Rattlers" was one of many to fly strike missions in Okinawa. Deploying rockets against the fortifications, they were commanded by Major George A. Axtell Jr.

Piloted by Maj. "Pappy" Boyington, F4U-1A "Lucybelle" was assigned to the VMF-214 squadron. Credited with 24 aerial victories and 4 more probable, Boyington was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor by President Franklin D. Roosevelt for his wartime efforts.

Piloted by 2nd Lt. James N. Cupp, F4U-1 "Daphne C" was assigned to the VMF-213 squadron. Credited with 13 aerial victories, Cupp was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Navy Cross during WWII.
