X-62A Vista Edwards AFB Die-Cast Model

Precision made at 1:72 scale, this model replicates the unique X-62A Vista technological-demonstrator aircraft stationed at Edwards Air Force Base.

Outfitted for artificial intelligence capability and utilized for systems testing, the X-62A Vista represents a technological step into the future of combat aircraft. Modified from an F-16D Block 30 with upgraded avionics systems, the redesignated Vista (Variable In-flight Simulation Test Aircraft) is built on an adaptable and proven airframe. Fitted with the EMC2 “Einstein Box” flight computer and open-systems-architecture, it can mimic the characteristics of other contemporary aircraft. Flown for the first time in 1992, it belongs to the Air Force Test Pilot School of Edwards Air Force Base.

History and Specifications:
Operational with the help of Lockheed Martin and Calspan, the former NF-16D performed its maiden flight in April 1992. Retaining the same F-16D aircraft components with updated avionics, it has performed in unstable or dangerous configurations for use in risk-reduction training. Creating an environment for students to craft solutions, model following and simulation control algorithms have been crafted as the basis for artificial intelligence flight. Operational during December of 2022, the AI agent flew for more than 17 hours unassisted. Marking the first use of AI onboard a tactical fighter aircraft, the X-62A is a milestone in the aviation industry. Painted in striking red, white, and blue, it continues to provide an excellent platform for students and test pilots alike.
