Top Pilot Picks for 2026: Gear Up with the Best in Aviation

Finding the right Christmas gift for a pilot can be a challenge, especially if you're not a pilot yourself. Aviation is a specialized world, and knowing which gear is worth buying isn't always obvious.

Fortunately, we have plenty of pilots here at Sporty's to help. Between our flight instructors at Sporty's Academy and the pilots in our corporate flight department, we spend a lot of time in the air and get to use some of the latest aviation equipment. For our 2026 Holiday Catalog, we've curated a list of ten gifts we think pilots will love and appreciate.

Here are our Top 10 Pilot Gifts for 2026.

1. PJ2 GPS Radio

Sporty's PJ2 series radios have always been popular for one simple reason: you can plug your aviation headset directly into the radio without it requiring a separate adapter. That's a significant advantage when you're dealing with a comm failure and need to establish communications quickly.

The new PJ2 GPS takes that familiar design a step further. A built-in GPS provides groundspeed, altitude, track, and basic waypoint navigation on a bright color screen. It can also send GPS position data to ForeFlight, providing another navigation option if your panel fails. Bluetooth audio, a rechargeable battery, and six-watt transmit power round out the upgrades.

For pilots who already carry a handheld radio, the additional GPS capability makes this a particularly worthwhile upgrade. And for those who don't, the PJ2 GPS is a good place to start.

2. ForeFlight Sentry Plus ADS-B Receiver

An ADS-B receiver is near the top of our list of recommended iPad accessories, especially for pilots flying longer flights or IFR. Having subscription-free weather, traffic, GPS position, and backup attitude information available in ForeFlight makes an already useful app considerably more capable.

Sentry Plus goes beyond the basics with an 18-hour battery, built-in OLED screen, and flight data recorder. GPS position, altitude, and attitude information are automatically for later review, making it especially useful for instrument training or during a post-flight debrief. There's also a built-in carbon monoxide detector, an important safety feature as pilots begin using cabin heat during the colder months.

It's one of the more capable portable ADS-B receivers available, with features that both student pilots and experienced pilots alike can put to good use.

3. Flight Gear Smart Battery Pack MAX

It's not unusual to find several rechargeable devices in a cockpit these days: an iPad, a phone, an ADS-B receiver, and perhaps even a Starlink Mini. On longer flights, keeping everything powered can take some planning.

The Flight Gear Smart Battery Pack MAX offers plenty of capacity for the job. Its 27,600 mAh battery can recharge an iPad Mini about 4.5 times, while two USB-C ports and one USB-A port allow pilots to charge up to three devices simultaneously. It even has enough power to power a Starlink Mini for more than two hours.

One feature we particularly appreciate is the built-in display, which shows remaining battery capacity, charging power, and estimated runtime. We've also tested the battery in multiple aircraft to ensure it doesn't interfere with radios or instruments, an important consideration for any electronic accessory used in the cockpit.

4. Bose A30 Aviation Headset

Bose has been a leader in aviation headsets for years, and the A30 is no exception. Building on the success of the popular A20, the A30 delivers excellent active noise reduction (ANR) along with several welcome improvements in comfort and functionality.

Comfort is one of the biggest improvements over the A20. Bose reduced the clamping force by 20%, a welcome change for pilots spending several hours in the cockpit. The A30 also offers three levels of ANR, giving pilots the flexibility to adjust noise reduction depending on the airplane they're flying. Bluetooth audio, a microphone that can be moved to either side, and a five-year warranty round out the package.

We've flown the A30 in many different airplanes, including our notoriously loud Piper Aztec, and have been impressed with its performance. At nearly $1,300, it's one of the more pricey gifts on this year's list, but for a piece of equipment that gets used on nearly every flight, it's an upgrade worth seriously considering.

Honorable mention: Lightspeed Delta Zulu Headset

Another excellent option is the Lightspeed Delta Zulu, which offers premium ANR along with some unique safety features. Most notably, it includes a built-in carbon monoxide detector that alerts pilots to dangerous CO levels in the cockpit. Lightspeed's HearingEQity technology also allows pilots to customize audio based on their individual hearing profile. Add Bluetooth connectivity, rechargeable batteries, and a seven-year warranty, and the Delta Zulu is certainly worth considering alongside the Bose A30.

5. Flight Outfitters Airfoil Jacket

Nobody complains about a warm jacket during a chilly preflight. But once you’re stuffed into a tight cockpit, that bulky winter coat can get restrictive pretty quickly. An insulated, lightweight jacket like the Flight Outfitters Airfoil Jacket is the answer.

It strikes a nice balance between warmth and comfort. It weighs less than a pound, with quilted insulation and a water-repellent exterior to help keep the cold out. It also packs into its own pocket, making it easy to stow in a flight bag when you don't need it. A fleece-lined collar, multiple zippered pockets, and cuffs designed to accommodate larger pilot watches are thoughtful additions.

It's a great option for cooler days at the airport, with a lightweight design that makes it just as practical for everyday wear.

6. Honeycomb Echo Flight Sim Controller

Home flight simulators have come a long way, but a realistic setup can require quite a bit of desk space. Between the yoke, throttle quadrant, and rudder pedals, it's understandable to see why some pilots hesitate to commit to all the hardware.

The Honeycomb Echo Controller takes a different approach, combining the major flight controls into a compact handheld device. It includes pitch, roll, and rudder inputs, along with controls for throttle, mixture, propeller, flaps, and trim. It's compatible with Microsoft Flight Simulator and X-Plane, with both wired and wireless connectivity.

For pilots who enjoy exploring new airplanes and airports on a home simulator, the Echo provides an affordable way to fly without needing a permanent simulator setup.

7. Flight Gear Stealth Bag

Flight bags have changed quite a bit over the years. With charts, approach plates, and flight planning now handled largely by an iPad, many pilots no longer need a large bag to carry their gear. A headset, laptop, and a few other accessories are often all that's needed for a typical flight.

The Flight Gear Stealth Bag was designed with that in mind. Its convertible 3-in-1 design allows pilots to carry it as a backpack, shoulder bag, or handled bag, with dedicated compartments for keeping everything organized. There's also a sleeve that slides over the handle of rolling luggage, a particularly useful feature for pilots who travel frequently.

The all-black design makes the Stealth Bag especially appealing to professional pilots, but its versatility extends well beyond the commercial pilot; it’s just as practical for a weekend flight in a Cessna 172.

8. Garmin D2 Mach 2 Pro Aviator Smartwatch

Garmin has been building aviation watches for years, and the new D2 Mach 2 Pro is easily one of its most capable models yet.

In addition to detailed aviation maps, Direct-to navigation, an HSI display, and automatic flight logging, the Pro adds built-in inReach technology. This allows satellite and LTE messaging, location sharing, and emergency SOS services to keep you connected between flights. It's a noteworthy feature for pilots who fly frequently, especially when their trips take them well beyond the airport.

The watch also includes a bright AMOLED screen, an LED flashlight, advanced fitness tracking, and up to 24 days of battery life in smartwatch mode. At $1,549, it comes in at one of the highest-priced gifts on this year's list, but Garmin has managed to put an impressive collection of aviation and everyday features on a pilot's wrist.

9. Flight Gear Rechargeable Smart Flashlight

A flashlight is standard equipment for night flying, but we've found that some of the smallest design details can make a big difference in the cockpit.

The Flight Gear Rechargeable Smart Flashlight has separate red and white lighting controlled by a simple slide switch. That eliminates the need to cycle through several brightness settings when you need to preserve your night vision. A digital display shows the remaining battery life, while a magnetic base and reversible clip provide several hands-free mounting options.

It's rechargeable via USB-C, weighs just 4 oz., and has a rectangular body that won't roll away when placed on a seat or instrument panel, or the occasional but accidental drop on the cockpit floor.

10. Sporty's 2026 Christmas Ornament

One of our favorite Christmas traditions at Sporty's is our annual aviation ornament. Each year features a different aircraft, and the 2026 edition celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Pilatus PC-12.

The PC-12 has earned a reputation as one of the most versatile and reliable turboprops in aviation, carrying business travelers or operating into remote airports. This year's limited-edition ornament is a fitting tribute to that history.

For pilots who collect our ornaments each Christmas, it's another aircraft to add to the tree. It also makes an easy gift for a flying friend or instructor.
