Add Bluetooth to any headset

Get alerts from your favorite aviation app, listen to music on long cross countries, or even make a phone call to get clearance while on the ground. The Audio Link uses Bluetooth to connect to enabled devices, and also has a 3.5mm aux-in jack for hard wiring.

Features:

  • Dual headset volume knobs
  • Audio priority
  • Bluetooth volume control
  • Mono/stereo switch
  • USB Type C power input
Audio Priority Control:
The FARO Stealth Audio Link allows you to prioritize your input audio. The top selection gives the aircraft priority. This means any time the intercom is active; the music or input audio will be muted. The middle selection gives the music or input audio priority. This means that both the intercom and music will be heard at the same time. The bottom selection mutes the music or input audio.

Works with any standard twin PJ plug aviation headset: David Clark, Sigtronics, Telex. Bose X, and more. Uses 2 AA batteries (not included), but can also be powered via the USB type C port on the side of the unit. Includes 3.5mm aux cable and USB type C power cable.

Great update to existing headset.
I have only used it on one flight so far, but the bluetooth connection was great, I was clearly heard, all controls function well, and USB-C/AA power was a great choice.
My only complaints are that the buttons are not very distinct in their presses, meaning it is hard to work without looking at it, the lights are VERY bright and distracting in a dark cockpit at night, and the female connectors that go to the headset are massive, leading to a very clunky set up.
I highly recommend it as it is the most cost effective device of its type in the market, but I hope that a V2 or update streamlines it some.

2 different units didn't work
I am very disappointing in that this did not work for me. I have a Faro headset that has not let me down in 3 years so I was pretty excited to try this. the Bluetooth connectivity and audio seemed to work just fine. the problem was in the radio transmissions. I returned the first one hoping it was just a fluke, however the second one didn't work either. the transmissions essentially didn't work at all. when you pressed the transmission button on the yoke to talk all that was heard was static. receiving was the same. super bummed as I don't want to pay big bucks for one with integrated Bluetooth.

Great concept but overall disappointing.
I used this unit with a Clarity Aloft in a CL350. On the good side: great build quality, lots of options, smooth and gradual muting, sound passes through with unit switched off and BT connects quickly once paired with your phone. The not so good: female jacks are huge and heavy. About 1" in diameter and 3" long. Audio volume adjustment has one sweet spot: too low and the sound becomes very muffled, too high and the sound becomes saturated, breaks up and gradually lowers in volume. Either scenario make the device unusable. The priority settings work however in the transmission setting the slightest noise from your mic, even just a light breath, or keyed mic will mute the music or podcast. It's constant! So all in all a great idea but the electronics in this device are not up to the task. A real shame.

I was tempted many times to shell out $1k to get a fancy headset just because of Bluetooth usage but I really like my current headset, it works great, it fits well, I don't want to change it.

Price of Audio Links makes it a no-brainer add-on to my headset and bam now I get ForeFlight alerts, can play music in flight, and have phone conversations. Really handy.

Severely degraded my cockpit audio.
I am returning. Severely degraded my cockpit audio, which I felt was dangerous - basically added a level of noise and muffling to what I could hear. The difference with/without - night and day and I choose to go without.

In terms of what I could hear from the connected phone - very little. Even with all audio controls turned up, music with barely audible.

That's my experience anyway, which would naturally not lead to a very positive review.

Great product
Perfect. Works well. Wish the chord from the intercom was a little longer and maybe just a bit shorter on the headset side. Still great product and cheaper than buying a new headset when my current one works fine. Using a Avcomm. I also upgraded my headset with gel cups and new wind screen. Feels like a Bose to me.

A shopper on Dec 11, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Both - the headset adapter uses either AA batteries or USB-C power.
This device caused the audio in my headset to become very garbled and static-filled, both ICS comms and radio comms. What might be the cause of this? If I can't solve this problem I will have to return it. Others hear me just fine, but the audio in my headset is almost unreadable.
Chris H on Jan 11, 2020
BEST ANSWER: This can be caused by the impedance of the device. I will pass this along to our manufacture. Currently, I do not have a fix for this.
If I am flying, attached to the intercom (radio), and using Bluetooth. If the batteries die...will I be able to hear and transmit on the radio or will I have to externally charge, change batteries or disconnect and/or plug my headset directly into the intercom (radio)?

Basically I am concerned that while flying the batteries will die and I will miss a radio call.
Donald O on Jan 18, 2020
BEST ANSWER: If the batteries die the Bluetooth will be the only thing that you lose.

A shopper on Jan 16, 2020

Are there limitations related to use without aircraft power (or without plugging in)? Eg, will it not work or automatically shut off without aircraft power.
alist on Dec 28, 2019
BEST ANSWER: It does not _need_ aircraft power as it has a battery option. It can however be powered by USB and therefore may plug-in to your aircraft if you have a USB power port. It DOES have an auto-off feature, which you can disable. Auto-off is activated by (from the manual)

If the Audio Link is not connected to the intercom, but there is a Bluetooth or Aux input, it will auto shut off after 60 minutes.

If I'm using BT to stream music to the Audio Link, does it only go to the headset or will it go through the ICS to the other headsets as well? I.e. do I need one for each headset to listen to the same music or is one sufficient for all headsets on the same comm panel?
Flogger on Dec 18, 2019
BEST ANSWER: It is a connection to a single headset, it will not play through the ICS unless you audio panel is capable of connecting to the Bluetooth device.
What is the cord length between the unit and the panel plug in jacks and the cable length to the headset jacks?
LARRY H on Jan 7, 2020
